We Remember

SHACKLETON, Jim

January 12, 1932 — May 12, 2023

With much sadness, Jim’s family shares the news of his passing on May 12, 2023, with his loving wife Annette holding his hand.

Jim was born to Emanuel & Hilda (née Ellison) Shackleton at Nut Mountain, Saskatchewan on January 12, 1932; the middle child and only boy with four sisters.

Jim will be remembered with love, pride, and respect by his wife Annette; as well as his daughter Silverado Socrates; daughter-in-law Jill; and grandson Jared; also his stepdaughter Kes Cohen and her husband Michael; and many nieces and nephews. Waiting on the other side to join Jim on the next part of his journey are his first wife Jean and their son Brian; his second wife, Noreen “Bobbie”; his parents; and his sisters.

At 17, Jim was drawn into a lifetime of service, starting with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1949, where he became an Air Traffic Controller with the rank of Captain. It was said that when Jim was guiding you in, you were as safe as in your mother’s arms. Jim was an active lifetime member, and Past President, of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kelowna Branch 26, and he was one of the first to volunteer for almost everything.

Jim was also a volunteer with the Westside Fire Department for many years while he lived there. As well, Jim gave a great deal of his time to The Big Brothers organization for decades.

The family invites all of Jim’s friends to join the celebration of his life on MAY 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, followed by a reception.
