We Remember

SHAHI, Nasib

February 27, 1927 — October 25, 2022

The beautiful, amazing, and fierce Nasib Shahi, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the incredible age of 95. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Mohinder Shahi; her parents; 3 brothers; and 1 sisters. She is survived by her 3 sisters; her 4 children: Gurdev (Sewa) Bains, Kulbir Shahi, Satnam (Jatinder) Shahi, and Sukhbir (Gurmeet) Shahi; and 6 grandchildren, whom she adored: Nancy Bains (David George), Param Bains (Andrew Kinsella), Deepak Shahi, Amman Shahi, Surge Shahi, and Simi Shahi. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Liam George, Mila George, and Arlo Kinsella, who cherished her in return.

Nasib was born in Sandharan, Punjab, India in 1927. She was the eldest of 8 siblings, with whom she remained close. She married our beloved Papaji in the late 1940s. They built a beautiful life with their 4 children, and eventually moved to Kelowna, BC, Canada to join their eldest daughter in 1980. Nasib’s work ethic could not be matched. She worked hard until retirement age for the Casorso family in Kelowna, with whom she maintained a special connection. Nasib’s grandchildren were the light of her life, and her great-grandchildren were her most recent passion. She also adored all of her surrogate children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Nasib’s zest for life was infectious. She was witty, funny, and loyal to a fault. She loved effortlessly, and was adored in return by all who knew her. Nasib will be missed immensely. Her loss has been devastating, but we are so grateful to have had her lighting up our lives for as long as she did. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
