We Remember
SHERRY, Joan Theresa
November 12, 1949 — August 2, 2026
We have lost a phenomenal woman. Joan passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was an incredible woman—selfless, endlessly patient, and always able to find the positive in every situation. Throughout all her health challenges, she rarely complained. She never asked “why me?”; instead, she persevered with grace, wit, and a smile on her face.
Joan Theresa Sherry was born in Kildare, Ireland, to Elish and Joe Maguire. The seventh of ten children, she grew up on the family farm, where the values of hard work, faith, and resilience shaped her character. Her childhood was filled with the lively spirit of a large Irish household and the grounding rhythm of farm life. Joan grew up surrounded by the warmth, love, and laughter that defines the Sherry family today.
In 1979, Joan came to Canada as a Frontier Apostle for the Catholic Church, answering Bishop O’Grady’s call to serve with compassion, humility, and unwavering faith. She was working at O’Grady High when she met Vincent. The two dated for a short time before returning to Ireland to wed on August 9, 1980. Together, they moved to Dawson Creek, where they started their family, and later settled in Prince George in 1992.
Throughout her life, Joan carried many titles—wife, mother, sister, aunt, nanny, and friend—and she was beloved in each of them. Her kindness, smile, and gentle steadiness touched everyone she met.
Joan was predeceased by her parents and by her siblings Rita, Noleen, Maureen, and Bobby. She is survived by her devoted husband, Vincent; her treasured children David, Liam (Anastasia), Esau, and Andrea (Adam); her cherished grandchildren Chloe, Mya, Emma, Oliver, and Abigail; and her adored siblings Deidre, Bernie, Frances, Stephen and John. Her family remains deeply grateful for the love she poured into their lives.

Wishing you peace and comfort as you navigate this difficult time. May the cherished memories of Joan bring you comfort at this time of sorrow. My deepest condolences.
Vincent and your family……..I’m so sorry that you have lost a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Joan was the sweet lady and such a positive person I have ever known. She will be missed by all of us. I’m sorry I cannot attend on Tuesday as I am on the ferry to the Island. Hugs and prayers to you all during this difficult time,
Just wanted to say I met Joan but knew little of her but wanted to express my condolences to the Sherry family and her many many friends
We have known you for your Park involvement , your wife far less. Behind every strong Man there is a woman , wife who quietly provides her own support and leadership..We are sure your wife was exemplary in both categories. Please accept our deepest condolences at this very difficult time; for you and your extended family. Rest in peace 🙏
Our hearts and prayers go out to Joan’s family. We will always remember her as the kindest and sweetest lady with the most beautiful smile..
Deepest sympathy to Vincent and family on the passing of your beloved Joan. Joan was such a loving and caring person to everyone. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

We have fond memories of spending time with Joan and Vince on many getaways including Moberly Lake in our early years at the Frontier Apostolate. We both appreciated Joan’s friendship and encouragement in our first year as houseparents. Joan always had the tea on anytime day or night. Our sincere condolences to Vince and family.
