Born in Gjovik, Norway on May 18, 1941, Laila passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 20, 2022.  She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Slim; daughter Cory (Trevor) Fletcher and son Darryn (Cathy); grandchildren Tore (Andrea) Shewchuk, Lindsay (Stephanie) Fletcher, Seonaid (Mitchell) Szczepaniak, Willow (Tyler) Daigle, Skyler Shewchuk, and Dane Shewchuk; great-grandchildren Olivia, Apollo, & Soren Shewchuk and Ollie & Posie Fletcher; siblings Frydis, Birgit, Inger, and Roy; nieces Krista and Asia, and nephew Eric.  Laila was predeceased by her parents Bjarne and Edith Almass and nephew Shane Adams.

Laila Shewchuk was loved and appreciated by all who knew her. She was a character who had a dry sense of humour and was very artistic. Her life revolved around her family and her deep spiritual conviction. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she had a strong faith in the resurrection and a positive hope for mankind.
