We Remember

SHIPOWICK, Iris Elaine
February 27, 1936 — June 1, 2025
The lovely Iris Elaine Shipowick, passed away peacefully in Jesus, of dementia, surrounded by family, at Mill Creek Village, on June 1, 2025, at age 89.
Born February 27, 1936, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Iris was adopted at 10 months old by Bert and Hazel Brown of Nipawin, Saskatchewan.
In 1950, Iris met the handsome and determined Tom Shipowick in Saskatoon. By 1952, the couple married in Nipawin and moved to Melville, Saskatchewan, to begin their lives together on the farm.
In 1970, the couple moved the family to Kelowna, British Columbia, until the late 80s. From 1990 to 2010, they lived in Abbotsford, where Iris enjoyed fulfilling careers at Chilliwack Hospital as a physiotherapist assistant, and an energetic and creative activity coordinator for Heritage Village.
Iris was an incredibly dedicated mom and grandma to her family. Family always came first. She led with love, grace, and acceptance, and her gentle, caring nature reached far and wide. She excelled in all homemaking skills, especially sewing, a passion that sparked at just six years old by her fascination with her mother’s creations. She also loved decorating, enjoying nature, fashion, and hosting gatherings. Iris loved to celebrate, and her greatest treasures were her family and friends.
Later, Iris and Tom moved back to Kelowna to be closer to their grandchildren and family. Iris continued to serve and care for others her entire life. She was a lady who was the true embodiment of the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Iris loved the Lord, and her incredible outer beauty was an inspiring reflection of her deep connection with Jesus.
Iris is profoundly missed and cherished by her beloved husband, Tom; their four children, June (Danny), Roy, Perry (Brenda), Joy (Warren); 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Glen Brown.
The vast void in our hearts is impossible to fill, but we will meet again.
We would like to thank the staff of Mill Creek Village and May Bennett for their wonderful care and support of our beloved Iris.

My condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Iris at Heritage Village in Chilliwack.. She was always upbeat and had a great sense of humour.
.
Great-Grandma Iris was a wonderful, beautiful woman. I’m grateful I got to introduce 2/3 of my children (Tom & Iris’s great-great grandchildren) to my wonderful great-grandparents. We will cherish the loving memories we have and honour her everyday by choosing kindness and patience in our lives. I hope I can make her proud as she watches over my family from heaven above. May we meet again and prayers for the family grieving and reminiscing. Great-Grandma is in good hands xoxo Kailey, Dustin, Elaina, Eliza, and Emberlinn
