We Remember
SHIPPEY, Alexander
—
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alex Shippey on March 7, 2013. Alex is survived by his loving wife Ivy, daughter Coleen Cheal (Brent) and 2 grandchildren, Kyle and Kaleena all of Kelowna, BC. Also survived by brothers-in-law Ken Welford (Gwen) and Francis Welford, cousins, nieces and nephews in Yorkshire England.
Alex was born in Staithes, North Yorkshire, England on April 28, 1933. He met Ivy, the love of his life, at primary school. After Alex served two years in Egypt with the British Armed forces, he returned to Staithes in 1955 and he and Ivy were married. In 1967 he immigrated to Canada with Ivy and his daughter Coleen. He worked many jobs throughout his life and was always known and respected as a hard worker with a great sense of humor. His passions were music, wood working and wine making. No service by request, a private family gathering will be held on what would have been Alex’s 80th birthday. If you feel so inclined, please raise a glass of wine on that day in memory of Alex, Dad, Grandad; he would have said, “cheers mate!”.
Should family and friends so desire, memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation, or your local Heart & Stroke Charity in the UK. For those wishing to send a condolence, photos or share memories, may do so by scrolling down this page to the area called “Share Your Condolences”.

Colleen & Ken
Our deepest sympathy to the family.
We hold many fond memories of our family times together close to our heart.
Alex, May You Rest In Peace.
Barry & I are so sorry to hear of Alex’s passing Coleen and Brent. I know it will be hard for Kyle & Kaleena as it hasn’t been a year since we lost Gramma Cheal. It’s been a tough year for you but knowing that your dad is at peace and out of pain will be a comfort to you and family. I always liked your dad very, very much! He was a happy, wonderful guy, so always remember that. It always gets harder as they get older and they know when their time is coming. If there’s anything Barry & I can do please let us know. Our prayers are with you and family at this time. Be strong and remember all those great times that we all had with the old folks! Love and hugs to all! Jo
