We Remember

SIKIC, Phyllis Ann

December 30, 1948 — October 12, 2026

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother, Phyllis Ann Sikic (née Knutson) at age 77, on October 12, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Neven, loving mother of Denice (Brett), Susan (Jimmy), and Mark, and affectionately referred to as ‘Babi’ by her grandchildren Erin, Elise, and Niko.  Phyllis died peacefully with family at her side in Kelowna, BC, during Thanksgiving, leaving a legacy of living life with gratitude, humility, love, and joy.

Phyllis was born on December 30, 1948, in Hardisty, Alberta, to Joseph and Irene Knutson of Hughenden, Alberta.  Phyllis was their sixth child, and she had seven siblings: Joanne, Marlis, Arlene, Karen, Keith, Barbara, and Chris.  Sadly, she was preceded in death by her sisters Joanne, Marlis, and Karen, and earlier in life, by her parents Joe and Irene.  She loved and cared for her remaining siblings deeply and made many trips to see them for formal gatherings or just to connect with them and have fun.  She was also deeply connected to her cousin Lorraine of Edmonton, Alberta, and to her niece Phyllis of Revelstoke, BC.

From her birth in Hardisty, Phyllis lived in Hughenden and then in Tofield, Alberta, and in Estevan, Saskatchewan, before moving to Edmonton, Alberta, at age 19. Upon moving to Edmonton, she met and married the love of her life, Neven Sikic.  Their journey through life took them from Edmonton to Toronto, Ontario; to White Rock, BC; to Kelowna, BC; back to Edmonton when their children were young; and finally to Kelowna once more. In their 55 years of marriage, Phyllis found her greatest moments of joy in raising her three children and enjoying her three grandchildren, having Neven always by her side.

Her most beloved passion was playing the guitar; as her practice grew and continued throughout her life, her guitar (with a guitar strap labelled ‘Paula’ – her nickname) almost became a physical extension of her.  Other passions included reading scripture and spiritual books, watching movies, completing crosswords and puzzles, going ice skating, watching Jeopardy! with her son Mark and her husband Neven, cooking and baking for her family, and taking walks in nature.  On her last day, she was actively engaged in many of these rituals and enjoyed a vibrant walk in the sun with family before going home, where her journey to the Lord began.  Phyllis held a strong and deep faith in the power of God her whole life, which kept her strong through her many life challenges and through her sudden transition to the Lord on that beautiful day.

Phyllis’s family extends their deep gratitude to all of her relatives and friends who have loved and supported her throughout her life.  Her remains will be co-distributed to reside with her parents, where they are laid to rest, and to be with her husband Neven, in their home in Kelowna, BC.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
