We Remember
SIMPSON, Joyce Valinda
August 14, 1923 — August 2, 2022
Joyce Valinda Simpson, 98, passed away August 2, 2022, peacefully in her sleep at the Vineyards Residence in Kelowna, BC.
Joyce, born on August 14, 1923, to Anne Louise and Sydney Kendall in Esher, England, immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. At the age of 2, Joyce moved to Montreal, Canada with her family, including Elizabeth, age 5.
In 1939, she met George Brian Simpson at the train station in St. Andrews East, and the two were inseparable from that point on. Joyce and Brian were married for over 42 years and had four children, Michael (Annetta), Victoria (Rick), Katherine (Sergei) and Robert (Manuela).
Joyce was a fiercely dedicated mom to all of her children. Family came first and was above all else to Joyce, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.
Joyce was an avid golfer, curler, and bridge player. Throughout her life, she donated her time to many charitable causes. Her positive attitude toward life made her stand out in a crowd.
Joyce was predeceased by Brian (d. 1983) and second husband, Richard McLean (d. 2005). She blessed the lives of her grandchildren Sasha (Kyle), Lisa (Alex), Philip, Oliver (Olivia), Victoria, Eugene, Ira, and her great-grandchild Ethan.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joyce’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Her ashes will be scattered at the family plot in St. Andrews East, Quebec on the site of her beloved Brian during a private service.
If so inclined, please raise a glass of bubbly to celebrate the life of this truly wonderful woman.
Love ya, Love ya, Love ya.

I just found out about your Mom leaving us. I’m so glad that she left peacefully in her sleep, just like Dad, who used to keep in touch with her once a year (he died in 2018). I spoke with your Mom a couple of years ago and she sounded happy; wish I’d done so again. Love to all of you from all of us; it’s good to have such a gentle ending after a long happy life, but it’s so hard to lose them.. She’s back with all her pals and your father; nice to think of them all together again. Big hugs to you all from me… Francie
