SINGH SANGHERA, Charan

November 5, 1937 — November 27, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Papa, Charan Singh Sanghera, at age 85 on November 27, 2022, in Kelowna, BC.

Charan Singh was born in Bilga, Punjab on November 5, 1937. He was predeceased by his mother Dhan Kaur and father Bakshish Singh.

Charan had three siblings who he loved and talked about often, Minder Singh, Gurmej Singh and Chamkaur Singh.

He will forever live on in the hearts of his wife of 65 years Surinder Kaur; their children: Baljit, Ranjit, Manjit and Babaljit; and grandchildren: Kyler, Surej, Kuldeep, Ricky, Gurinder, Kayleigh, Taran, Sandeep, Ekta and Sanam. Charan did not only have grandchildren that loved him immensely, but he also had great grandchildren: Ethan, Emilia, Evan, Lohan, Lavani and Ronick.

In 1986, Charan left his village in Punjab and moved to Edmonton. Shortly after, in 1987, Charan moved to Kelowna, BC. He dedicated his life to God, work, community, and his family. Charan worked in an orchard for over 20 years and took pride in working hard. He lived a simple and humble life and put God first in everything that he did. He would dedicate his time at the Okanagan Sikh Temple, where you would often see him doing Seva. He had many friendships, and they all lasted throughout his entire lifetime. He cared deeply about the people that were in his life.

In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, walking, biking, and spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed watching sports with his grandchildren and joined them in watching the NBA playoffs every year. He loved bubble tea! He promoted hard work, simple living and a healthy lifestyle.

He was a very loving, caring and amazing man who had a heart of gold. He raised four of his grandchildren: Surej, Ricky, Ekta and Sanam. He loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world, and they loved him back even more. His life was filled with love and happiness. His spirits were always high, and he remained happy throughout his life.  There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his family.

Whether he was Papa Ji, Thiya Ji, Chacha Ji, Veera, Charna, or Charlie to you, he will be deeply missed and live on forever in our hearts.

A Funeral Service will be held for those who want to pay their respects on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2022, at 10:00 AM (PST), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with the Temple Priest presiding.  The reception will be held on the same day, at 12:00 pm, at the Okanagan Sikh Temple, 1111 Rutland Rd N, Kelowna, BC.
