We Remember

SIROIS, Joseph Raymond “Ray” Edward

1943 – 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden death of Joseph Raymond “Ray” Edward Sirois of Kelowna, BC. Ray was 81 years young. He is survived by his only child and daughter, Carrie Ann Sirois Coogan, her husband Michael Patrick Coogan, and their son, Joseph Patrick Coogan, of Fairfax, Virginia.

He had just returned home from visiting all three of his surviving siblings, Phil Sirois (Carol), Alice Misener, and Roger Sirois (Wendy) in Lloydminster, AB, the first time since the COVID Pandemic. That night he passed away from a heart attack after sharing photos and fun details of their visit. He was predeceased by his older brother Ben, and his adopted brother, Joe Blyan, for whom he always had a soft spot in his heart.

Born near Battleford, SK, to Theresa (Piette) and Paul Sirois, he spent most of his career in Saskatoon working for FM Shah Building Design and March Consulting. Happy and healthy, he eventually worked part-time until almost 71. He retired to balmy Kelowna, BC, and immediately joined the Newcomers Club and purchased a condo in the downtown area. He made many friends, all of whom he cherished, and within a few short months Kelowna became home.

He made frequent trips to Virginia, to visit extended family and to spend quality time with his only grandson, including attending his recent middle school graduation.  Many nights were spent playing games – Joe and Ray were great card partners. He was the most caring, kind and gentle man – he always had a joke to share. Ray (a.k.a. “Grandpa”) will be dearly missed and the family is shocked by his sudden passing – he would want us to celebrate his life, laugh at his antics, and just keep enjoying life.

In lieu of flowers, he would have loved you to tell a joke to a dear friend over a simple cup of black coffee and share a photo or two. Please also consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Ray’s life was lived well with a heart full of love.

My condolences on your loss. My experiences with Ray was that he was always ready to laugh and share a joke when we would meet at the deli cafe for coffee with a bunch of the guys.
