We Remember
SKENE, John Stanley
August 14, 1925 — September 20, 2026
It is with immense love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of John Stanley Skene on September 20, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101.
John was born on August 14, 1925, in Calgary, Alberta. He was an avid reader throughout his life and would read just about anything, though the daily newspaper was always a favourite. He had a particular interest in astronomy and space travel and kept up with developments in both. When the space shuttle was set to take off, John was up early to watch it happen.
John spent his career as a doctor in Lloydminster, where he delivered many generations of children and cared for countless families over the years. It was through his work that he met his first wife, Betty May, who was a nurse. John was a kind, gentle and considerate man, and he brought those qualities to both his work and his relationships with others.
Family was always an important part of John’s life. He was a devoted and involved father and loved being a grandfather. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping and swimming, and many good family memories were made along the way. After 101 years, John leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him dearly.
John is lovingly survived by his children Linda Ann (Bud), Michael, Gordon (Norma), and Glenn; grandchildren Holly (Matt), Brooke, Tarea, Joeline, Michael, Angie French, Rory (Marea) French, Chris (D’Anza) French, and Joel French; great-grandchildren Scarlett, Chloe, and May, Lucas, Alan, Thomas, Justis, Landen, Sahannah, Rayanna, Emberlyn, and Jack; and many nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him “Uncle Johnny”.
He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his parents, G.W. and Ina Skene; his first wife, Betty May Skene; his second wife, Eddy Skene; his son, Ian Skene; his brother, Alex (Patty); and his three sisters, Helen (Garf), Jessie (Bruce), and Mary (infant).
He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
