We Remember
SLADEN, Margaret Elaine
July 7, 1940 — July 12, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Elaine Sladen on July 12, 2026, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 86.
Elaine was born on July 7, 1940, in Rossland, BC. At the age of 5 she moved to Kelowna, BC with her family, where she fulfilled her goal of becoming a teacher. Elaine started her teaching career in Terrace, BC, and after a number of years she relocated to the Vancouver area and taught for a year in Surrey. Elaine then made her way back to Kelowna where Elaine’s most enjoyable opportunity was to teach at one of the last one-room schools in the province, Black Mountain Elementary School, grades 1-7. From there, she taught at South Rutland Elementary and then fulfilled her teaching career at Quigley Elementary, eventually as the vice-principal. Elaine took great joy in the ability to help shape the young minds, mentor and encourage learning skills of the primary grade students.
Elaine enjoyed canning in the summer and fall, was an avid gardener, spending hours and days creating a beautiful yard. She was very fond of all her pets, cats, and dogs, especially her favourite breed, Cocker Spaniels. Elaine volunteered at the SPCA as she always wanted the best for every animal. She enjoyed golfing as much as possible with her many friends. Elaine travelled extensively all around the world, accompanied by one friend or a group of friends who would just relax at some of her favourite retreat locations.
Elaine is survived by her brothers Gordon (Katie) and Victor (Linda); nieces and nephews Judy, Kelly, Wes, Brent, Dan, Rob, Vikki, Janet, Wendy, Carrie, Mark, Doug, Tom, Ley, and Mike; sons Ron (Natalie), Mike (Angela), and Guy (Kelly); along with her 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, Brett and Blair, Lisa (Ava and Mya), Brandon (Abel), and Scott (Braden and Ethan). Elaine absolutely adored all of her nieces, nephews, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father Cecil; mother Gwen; brother David; and sister Marylin.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local SPCA in Elaine’s honour as her love for animals was paramount in her life.
