We Remember
SLATER, Daniel Douglas
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
THE FAMILY HAS DECIDED TO POSTPONE THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE TO A LATER DATE WHEN IT WILL BE MORE APPROPRIATE TO GATHER.
It is with deep sadness that we have to announce the passing of Daniel Douglas Slater. Born on August 21, 1952 in Burnaby, BC. He passed peacefully at the age of 67 on February 27, 2020.
He is survived by his 3 kids Jeanette (Chris), Kevin (Kelsey), and Brian; and grandkids Ava, Malia, Emmett, and Riggs; as well by his siblings Bonnie, Barb, Brian, and Karen. Dan was a loved father, brother, grandpa, uncle, mentor, coach, businessman and very good friend to many.
He was a concrete industry and motorcycle enthusiast, known for his unparalleled wit and charm that will be missed by all. He always made everyone feel welcome and at home in his presence. This was evident with his open-door policy in his garage, where many great laughs were shared.
There was nothing he was prouder of, or loved more then his children, and he often talked about his grandchildren as being the most beautiful things in the world. His booming laughter, playful banter and lively stories will be fondly missed by anyone who was able to experience it. The legend of Dan Slater will live on in our hearts.

I am so sorry, you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
Haven’t seen Danny for years, remember him well, he was my baseball coach in 1969
He had a way of getting the best out of us kids, Ride in Peace my friend
I received word today of Dan’s passing. We were old friends since my days at Douglas Road Elementary and then on, eventually, to Burnaby Central. You may recall that in or around 1973 we traveled south in a 1957 VW camper down to Mexico before returning to the States to ski in Utah, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. It was a romp that I will never forget. Farewell skipper.
It’s been many, many years since Jeanette, Kevin and Brian helped me wash my pickup truck when I visited from Burnaby. Quite likely you don’t even remember me. I even got to babysit for a night. And Dan’s brother Brian who lent me his MGB just for the heck up of it to drive up to Kelowna to visit Dan another year. My heart and condolences go out to you and all the rest of your family. Dan was so much fun. We always had way too much fun when the two of us got together. He was one of my favourite people and I’ve missed him much since our paths diverged. Bagpipes through the Villa Hotel. So many memories when we were young men. Rest in Peace Big D.
Condolences to the Slater Family.
Worked with Dan many times doing concrete testing for OK Builders.
Dan was always so helpful, to us at Interior Testing Services
Always pleasure to work with Dan.
My deepest sympathies to the family on the loss of such a wonderful man! I’ve known Danny since he lived with my brother Rick – and he was such a funny warm-hearted guy. All my memories of him make me smile. He will be missed.
condolences to the Slater family, have lots of good memories of time spent with Dan. he was full of wit and humor he kept a person alert for his next prank.. fed me a lot of free beer just so I would buy his concrete. I guess it worked for a few years. lots of fun and good times at the Packing house pub. RIP Dan.
While I haven’t seen Danny for about 40 years, when I saw word of his passing wonderful memories of growing up together on Norfolk Street flooded back. Danny was a great friend to my brother John and me. Those were innocent times, but we where still able to find mischief and have a whole lot of fun getting into that mischief. My condolences to the Slater family. I wish you a fond farewell Danny.
So sorry to hear of Danny’s passing. So many fond (and crazy) memories starting from Douglas Road Elementary (Slater’s Taters Green House team) all the way to ski trips to Big White with our young families. We had so much fun. I will miss him..
I was deeply saddened by the recent news of Danny Slater’s passing.
As a fellow Douglas Road /Burnaby Central classmate, I have fond memories of Danny from our school days together. A little secret of mine: he was my first crush from the early elementary school grades. I was in awe that he played the Bagpipes!!!
At this time my heartfelt condolences to you, (his children, grandchildren, and siblings). Sharing in your saddness as you /we fondly remember him.
With sincere sympathy.
Anne
My condolences to the Slater family. I have not seen Danny for many years but my fondest memory was of a night, in the early 70’s, we all went for beer at the Royal Towers Hotel , they had an amateur night going on and Danny just up and left, said he would be back in a minute. Well in he walks, proceeds right up on stage and begins to play these bagpipes. We all had a great laugh.
Very sorry to hear about Danny’s passing. On behalf of the entire Grist family, please accept our deepest condolences. We have many happy memories of our time on Norfolk Street with Bonnie, Danny, Barb, Brian and Kerry and wish you all the best.
Love you forever., my beloved.. Karen
I miss you my love.
