We Remember

UPDATED SERVICE INFO – SMITH, Penelope Lynn

November 3, 1945 — May 3, 2022

We are absolutely devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Penelope Lynn Smith. Our amazing matriarch, the most beautiful soul, the glue to our family, the one who takes care of us all. The woman with a thousand stories, a contagious laugh, and an incredible spirit. Penny departed us on May 3, 2022, after an extremely surprising and brief battle with cancer.

Born to the late Mildred and Vern Jones on November 3, 1945, Penny was the first child of three, joined later by late brother Alan Jones (Maggie), and younger sister Terri Hinton (George). Through years in Victoria, Zeballos, Kaslo, Nelson, Port Alice, Burnaby, Port Coquitlam, and Penticton, Penny found her way to Kelowna in 1984 where she remained for the rest of her years.

Always well-loved by coworkers, Penny spent her early years at Kelly Douglas in Burnaby, moving to Okanagan North Growers in the office once she moved to Kelowna, then finishing her career at Interior Health where she retired in 2010.

Penny was dedicated to her family and friends alike; she was always the first to help when someone was in need. A supportive mother like no other – she did everything to ensure the success of her children. She found immense joy in making sure those around her were loved and well taken care of. She had a beautiful eye for photography and shared her talents in photography competitions and exhibits over the years. Penny was a fierce and proud woman, and we were so lucky to have been able to share her life.

Penny is survived by her devoted husband Greg Smith, who she met at the tender age of three years old in the sandbox. After growing up together, both carried on their separate ways for a number of years and reconnected later in life to be married in 2001. The last 30 years together have been full of laughter, joy, travel, adventures, family, friends, and unconditional love, and life will not be the same without her. She will also be remembered forever by daughter Andrea Stuart (Jenn); Trevor Smith (Nagore), and their children Lander & Naia; Megan Kensett and her children Max & Sam; Terri Hinton (George); Gerry Stuart; Andre Sad; Maggie LaFleur; Jamie Slater (Marina), and their children Anna, Sarah, & Ryan; Rob Slater; and Kristine Slater (Dave). And, she was predeceased by brother Al (d. 2015) and son Scott Stuart (d. 2020).

To say Penny will be missed is an understatement. A light like hers is not easily extinguished. Her loving spirit has been captured in our hearts, and she will be loved and remembered each and every day.
