Soucie, Barbara
May 29, 1938 — January 4, 2013
Barbara journeyed home peacefully on January 4 after a short battle with lung cancer. She is survived by husband Al Soucie; and three children, Holly McNeil-Hay (Jeff Hay), Roland (Tracy Anderson) and Daniel (Becky). Also by seven beloved grandchildren: Shani Wendell, Tyson and Curtis McNeil-Hay; Shaelyn, Brooklyn, Jayme, and Devin Soucie; and two great-granddaughters. Barbara is also survived by her best friend, sister Gloria Hecimovic; and many other friends and family in Stewart and Terrace.
She was predeceased by two other dear sisters, Shirley and Beverley; and her parents Vera and Allan Lawrence.
Barbara was born in Vancouver but moved to the small northern mining community of Stewart, BC, at the age of 8. She stayed for a lifetime. A quintessential generous, hardworking, energetic northerner, she raised her children there and then took an enthusiastic hand in the raising of her Stewart grandchildren. She was office manager for the family’s heavy construction and deep sea port companies until a couple of months before her death.
In her spare time, she loved to walk the dog, play badminton, travel to Vegas, and take part in community events. She will be remembered as someone who never sat still; if she wasn’t at her desk, she might have been picking berries, baking buns, playing ball, shovelling snow, or telling her grandkids to ‘dry up.’ She will be sorely missed and remembered forever.
Memorial donations in her name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A celebration of Barb’s life will be held in Stewart later this year.

I am so sorry for your loss. Barb played a huge part in your lives and will leave a hole never to be filled, but she loved her family with everything she was. I’ll miss her smile and her kindness.
Dear Al, Holly, Dan, Rollie and the rest of the Soucie family,
On behalf of the McLeod family, our sincere condolences on the passing of Barb. She was a wonderful woman and true northerner, and lots of memories of her smiling face in the King Eddy and about town over the years.

We met Barb around 6 years ago and could tell right from the beginning that she was a devoted woman… to her family, friends and community. You will be forever missed… Our deepest sympathy to her family to to all who knew her.

My sincerest condolences on the passing of a great lady from a great Canadian family. I only had the pleasure of spending a little time with Barbra but I got a great sense of what incredible matriarch she was and I see many of her qualities in your family. While I know you will miss her terribly, you must feel so blessed to have had such an incredible mother. I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you all during this difficult time.

I will always Barb as a devoted mother & Grandmother. Her family was everything to her and I know you will miss her greatly. She was a true Stewartite and will be missed by the whole community.

The little town of Stewart has lost one of it’s True Influential Spirits. I, as I am sure many others, will miss being able to say Hello and see that smile, and also try to “appear, not quilty” even after growing up, as Barb always knew what us kids were up to! My thoughts are with Al, and the Family.
