We Remember

SOWERBY, Marion Ann (née Macdonald)
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
It is with gratitude and joy that we celebrate our Mom, Ann Sowerby and the end of her 88-year journey. Born Marion Ann Macdonald in Sherbrooke Que in 1930, Ann graduated from Bishops University in 1951. She moved to Penhold, Alta. where she worked as an X-ray technician and met future husband Raymond Sowerby. Ann enjoyed life as a “career gal” but when she and Ray married in 1957 she put her focus on raising their three kids Sheila, Jane & John. The family was moved from Ottawa to Colorado Springs Colo., to Kingston Ont. while Ray was in the Air Force. They eventually settled in Kelowna, B.C. upon retirement from the military in 1972. Ann raised her kids, curled, golfed, enjoyed singing in musical theatre productions and volunteered for over 20 years at Kelowna General Hospital. Though the last few years had physical challenges Mom never lost her wit or appreciation of her family and her love of animals. June 24, 2019 Ann passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She will be missed by her children, their partners Larry, Richard and Shauna, her grandchildren Erin (& Cameron) Bennett, Logan, Jackson and Sydney, also her cat Hannah and her many fur grandkids Ted, and many more. Her feisty spirit will never be forgotten, and we are so grateful for having had her in our lives! Many thanks to the staff at Three Links for their exceptional care of our dear Mom. A private family service will be held at a future date. We love you Mom…hug Dad for us and shine on…

Thinking of you and sending our sincere condolences. Ann was a wonderful neighbour and we missed her and her beloved Hanna when she moved away. May the wonderful memories of happy times bring you comfort.

Dear Sheila, Jane and John… we are very sorry to hear of Ann’s passing… another member of the fabulous six (Louise, Dick, Marg, Doug, Ray and Ann) moves on. 88 years well lived and well loved. Coincidently, Anne and I had lunch with Doug in Lennoxville on the 23rd the day before where we talked about Ann and the good times we all had growing up.
I remember with great fondness the Christmas’s and Grey Cups that our families spent together in Lennoxville, Ottawa and Beaconsfield. I always tell my own boys how happy a time we all had. Ann was certainly feisty and loving…a trait seemingly shared by all of the Macdonald children of that generation.
We are so very glad that you folks included us in the tour of the Eastern Townships with Ann not to long ago. It was an opportunity to make contact once more and in retrospect to say goodbye to Ann. The fond memories are burned into our hearts and minds.

Sheila, Jane and John:
Ann’s discreet decision not to marry me when I proposed to her at the age of five never diminished my affection for her. When we all met in Lennoxville in 2017, her charm and love for everyone shone brightly, as always.
Our family visits to Bell’s Corner were especially memorable. Ann embraced the happy chaos, whether it was another of Boco’s great escapes (“Ray, where is that damned dog!”), daughters trying to see how many golf balls they could cram into their mouths (“Oh, for God’s sake, you two!”) or our fathers in the basement working on their perpetual motion machine (“We might as well get comfortable, Louise. They’ll be down there forever.”) In the three of you and your dad, she was blessed with a wonderful family which, as we say in the East, was the proper thing.
Love,
Bill and Lindsay
