We Remember
SPENCE, Wendy Jean
January 14, 1958 — December 14, 2025
Wendy Jean Spence passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2025, after living a life built on dedication, hard work and fun. She was best known for her social nature and leaving nothing unsaid.
Born in Calgary, Wendy was a lifelong resident of Kelowna. After graduating from KSS in 1976, Wendy moved to Edmonton, although she moved back to Kelowna just a few years later, the friendships and great memories she made there stayed with her. In her career, Wendy was a banker at BMO for 16 years starting in the early 1980s, where she developed many of her meaningful and life-long friendships.
Following the bank, Wendy was determined and fiercely motivated to succeed at business when she founded Vacation Food Services and Vacation Services, two companies critical to the Okanagan’s growing tourism industry. With her self-made success, she was able to sell the businesses and retire in 2018. This made her busier than ever maintaining her cherished yard, hosting friends and family, and regularly attending Pilates classes.
Wendy is survived by ‘the lights of her life’ — her daughters, Jessica Meier and Alicia Meier, only to be outshone by Jack and Susie, her beloved fur babies; in addition to her sister, Judy Quick and Peter Meier, her long-time friend and former husband. Wendy is sorely missed and fondly remembered for her unique zest, sharp humour and direct, playful nature.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Okanagan Humane Society, The Bridge Youth & Family Services, or Kelowna’s Gospel Mission.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for Spring 2026.

You touched my life through your daughter, Jess, who carries on your playful nature and sharp sense of humour. When Jess introduced us, I was so touched by the warmth and care you immediately extended to me. My heart goes out to your family.
Full of life, Wendy lit up the room and inspired the party! Honesty, hardwork , humour and a big heart will mark her memory. My deepest sympathy to Alisha, Jessica, Peter and all those closest to Wendy. Lorraine Carruthers
My deepest sympathies to Jessica, Alicia, Peter and Wendy’s sister Judy. Wendy was a loving mother to Jessica and Alicia, she knew how to work hard and how to have fun. Gone too soon.
