We Remember
SPENCER, Victor Vance
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
“Take me out coach, I’ve had enough”. Vic never backed away from a challenge, having a personal motto of “fight back” but lost his last battle on Aug 20th after a short illness.
One of seven children born to the pioneering family of Col. Victor & Mrs. Spencer of Vancouver. Victor V was, among other things, a WW II Naval Officer, cattle rancher, avid duck hunter and outdoorsman, retailer (David Spencer Ltd.), football player (Hamilton Tigers), and was most proud of being one of the founders of the BC Lions football club.
He lived a full and varied life between homes in West Vancouver and Kelowna. He loved sports, particularly “his Lions”, his family, his many hunting dogs and “Your Move”. Vic was also an enthusiastic writer and enjoyed creating many poetic verses for those special people in his life. Vic was considered to be decent, thoughtful and generous and was a member of, and supported, many organizations and clubs.
Dad, “Gramps”, was predeceased by the love of his life, Peggy and other family members. He will be sadly missed and remembered by: his sister Diana Dyer; sister-in-law Isabelle Loveless; his children Janice Spencer, Andrea (Spencer) Hunter, Victor Spencer III (Andrea); grandchildren Victor IV, David, Michael and Paloma; great granddaughter Phoenix; many nieces& nephews; and the many people whose lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held at Capilano Golf & Country Club in West Vancouver at 1:00 pm on Oct 4, 2015. For those wishing to send a condolence, photos or share memories, may do so by scrolling down this page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Janice, we are saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
We have many fond memories of Vic and his great stories at the diamond s ranch of an era now past. As he frequently pointed out after a Clinton may ball weekend…” Some of our aircraft are missing”
, Vic cut a broad colourful swath and few will appreciate that today, except those that were present. He knew how to live on his own terms.
He is missed, though he had a great run.Our condolences to his family.

I am saddened to hear of our friends passing. I know my Dad would be saying big strong football players live forever as Victor was one of my Dad’s special friends who he looked up to both figuratively and ;literally. I want to say that when my Dad was 91 and in a group home Vic asked me if he could visit him and of course I said absolutely. He not only visited he took him for a nice drive about the city so Dad could see how it had changed so much over the years. Dad spoke fondly of that drive often. Victor Was a big man with a big heart. RIP
Dear Janice and Family
Sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. Bob always thought a lot of your Dad as a person and his great contribution to Canadian Football and the BC
Lions.
I know you will all have great memories and laughs as our family has had of Bob
Love Kay Ackles

Vic hunted here probably 60 years and in that time brought Peggy and many buddies along for the adventure. He was a unique man who will be missed terribly by family and friends. A special tribute to him will be most fitting. Love and hugs
Dear Andrea, Victor and Janice, So sad to hear of “daddy Victor’s passing” .. We were lucky to have him in our lives and have many, many fond memories that will never be forgotten. He was one of a kind and is sorely missed. So glad we were able to get together for an impromptu 90th birthday celebration.
Andrea, Janice and Victor — Many thanks for the great sendoff Celebration of Life yesterday for
” Daddy Victor” – he would have been so proud of you all for such a warm and happy get together . Wonderful childhood memories ie my one and only horse ride at Pavilion, going to Grey Cup with Janice . and being in the boat when ” Your Move” had seven skiers up – what a day ! I always knew when an event or party was hosted by The Spencers it would be a truly fun occasion . Great to see you all and remember a fabulous human being who meant so much to many . Much love.
I looked after Victor and the boys at the hunting club in North east Coquitlam. We considered him as a friend. We had something in common. The BC Lions and the Chilcotin. Always took time to have a visit with us. A big man with a big heart. We keep in touch him after we left the hunting club. He always accepted our calls. Our deepest condolences. Here’s a big glass of CountryTime Lemonade to one of the greatest people we’ve ever known. Rest in peace Victor. You earned it.
