We Remember

SPLETZER, Magdalene “Lena”

With mixed emotions we said goodbye to our Mom, “Lena” Magdalene Spletzer, who passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

She was a wonderful mother to Carol, Trudy, Eric, and Elaine, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom and Dad (Robert) were married for 69 years, and it was somehow fitting that she should be re-united with him on his birthday, the day of her passing. Mom wrote “I thank God for a long and very happy life,” and it was her personal faith which anchored and guided her through 101 years.

A private family service will be held to honour her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Samaritan’s Purse or the Kelowna Gospel Mission.

Condolences to the Spletzer family. I remember Lina when we worked in white cross for several years. A lovely, gracious lady. You will be missed greatly.

  • Tannis (Warren) Lemke says:

Your wonderful mom, Mrs.Spletzer (as I knew her) was my Sunday school teacher when I attended Trinity Baptist Church in the early 1970s as an adolescent. I clearly remember her sharing with us how she had been ignoring a sore on her upper lip that wouldn’t heal. She explained how a sudden and excruciating pain in her hip convinced her to see her family doctor, and since she was there already, she decided she could also mention the sore on her upper lip. It turned out that her hip was fine but the sore was skin cancer that needed to be treated right away. Mrs Spletzer shared how she realized God had allowed the hip pain in order to ensure she saw a doctor in time for the skin cancer to be cured. She taught me important truths that day; that God cares about us deeply, even our health and welfare. He’s not just keeping track of how many lost souls we witness to. Her strong faith in God’s love and care for her, and her quickness to see his hand in the events of her life was a trigger that marked the beginning of that same outlook with respect to my own life events. I will always be grateful for her willingness to teach Sunday school and to vulnerably share on a real and applicable level with her Sunday morning charges. She lived a long life honouring God and walking faithfully with him. May the knowledge that she touched and changed many lives for eternity be a comfort to you at this time. She is at home with Jesus! What a wonderful milestone she has reached! Blessings….Tannis
