We Remember
STADIE, Horst Franz
January 23, 1930 — October 5, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Horst Stadie. Horst is sadly missed by his loving wife, Eva (nee Goetzke), brother Werner, sister Monika, sons Gerald (Barbara), Ralph (Rebecca), Claus (Monique), and 10 grandchildren. Horst was born in Gross Baum, East Prussia. Seeking a better life, he ventured out on his own and immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Calgary. In 1960 Horst met the love of his life, Eva, and they married shortly thereafter. They made their home in Calgary where they raised their three sons. A master carpenter, Horst was self-employed in the home construction business as a cabinet maker and builder. In 1990, he and Eva retired in West Kelowna. Opa’s new home quickly became a favourite place for family gatherings. Together with Eva, he passionately nurtured roses, tomatoes, and numerous varieties of fresh fruit in his beautiful garden. He loved to share the fruit of his labour with his family and neighbours. Horst gladly utilized his construction skills to volunteer at Church and in the community. An avid fisherman, Horst could often be found battling rainbow trout on the local lakes. In the winter, even into his 70’s, Opa would be skiing the slopes of Big White trying to keep up with his grandkids. A celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday October 11th at the First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Horst Stadie may be made directly to First Lutheran Church, 4091 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, BC.If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

We offer our sincere condolences to Eva, Claus, Gary, Ralph and their families and all their relations.
We so enjoyed our last time with Horst when he and Eva visited us in Victoria in July.
We shall especially miss him this Thanksgiving – we have enjoyed many Thanksgivings with him and Eva over the years.
May his soul rest in peace.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Stadie family. In addition to Horst and Eva’s time in Calgary, we also fondly remember the odd visit to Kelowna when Horst would pull our children on the boat. Claus would yell directions at him, all of which Host ignored. We hope that you will celebrate with joy the memories that you have, may God wrap you in his arms at this time.
Love,Daryl, Cori, Rachel, Mark and Brett

Dear Eva, Gary, Ralph and Claus,
We share your pain and have been deeply hurt that Horst has left forever. As we feel with you, please accept our deepest sympathy and our heartfelt condolences.
Horst will be sorely missed by his large family across the ocean and his friends. I dare to speak not only for my mother Monika but for all the Stadies over here that your family in Europe tries to support you as best as we can from the distance in this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and with Horst.
There is a saying – “Memories are like stars which shine and guide us through our sadness.”
We do hope that your memories and shared moments together with him can give you some sort of comfort. We know him as a charming, caring and warm-hearted person who loved to laugh and was able to infect others with his zest for life. This is how we will remember him and he will stay in our hearts forever.
In loving memory of Onkel Horst we send you some pictures taken over the years on Föhr, in Berlin, Bavaria and Canada.
