Stearns, Delores Doris was born on August 27, 1926 in the small prairie town of Horsham Saskatchewan to Wilhiem and Louise Mallach. Wilhiem and Louise had 10 children, Emil was the oldest, followed by Harold, Elmer, Ella, Clarence, Verna, Walter, Delores, Leroy, and James. Delores moved with her family to Rutland, British Columbia in her teenage years where she attended Rutland High School. She enjoyed the outdoors and playing softball until a young handsome man swept her off her feet. She married that man, Kenneth Raymond Stearns on February 27, 1948 and they began to raise a family together that eventually included 1 daughter, Jeanette and three sons, Robert, Trevor, and Greg. She worked at the McLean & Fitzpatrick Packing House while raising her family, and remaining active in the Rutland Minor Baseball Auxiliary Association.
Delores passed away quietly in her sleep at the age of 88 on Jan 28 of this year, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Ray who passed away in Feb of 2009. She was also predeceased by her parents and each one of her nine brothers and sisters.
Delores is survived by her loving family which was her pride and joy. She had four children, nine grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The family includes Jeanette Deshayes, her daughter Cadence and her husband Brad and their two children Chynna and Noah. Chynna is the mother of Delores’ great great granddaughter Adilynn. Jeanette’s daughter Courtney and Danny and her daughter Scarlett. Delores’ son Robert Stearns and his wife Kathy, and their son Jeffrey and his wife Jen. Robert and Kathy’s daughter Amanda and her husband Adam and Robert and Kathy’s youngest daughter Kelsey. Delores’ son Trevor and his wife Barb, and their son Bryan, and their daughter Kiana and boyfriend Steve. And Delores’ son Greg and his wife Susan, and their son Michael and his fiancee Priya, and their youngest son Daniel and girlfriend Sydney.
The family would like to express their deepest thankfulness to the staff of the Joe Rich Community at Sun Pointe Village who lovingly cared for our Mom. They would also like to acknowledge the outstanding staff at Kelowna General Hospital Four East for the love, care and support. And finally, they would like to thank Dr. Loken, Dr. Rolf, and Dr. Oswald for their caring and supportive presence during the final days of Delores’ life.
Delores’ funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home located at 2020 Springfield Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association in her memory.
