We Remember
STEEL, Catherine “Rena”
May 15, 1928 — April 10, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother Rena Steel on April 10, 2022, at the age of 93 years.
Mom is survived by her children, Anne Hamilton (Harry Martens) and Sandra (Alan) Hamm; as well as her grandchildren, Jason (Sylvia), Dale (Cheryl), Melissa (Mike), Jennifer (Danny), Kirstie (Evan) and Brett (Ericka); along with seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way in July 2022. Mom was predeceased by her husband of nearly 70 years on June 23, 2021.
Mom was born in Glasgow, Scotland on May 15, 1928 and was an only child. Mom and Dad immigrated to Brandon, Manitoba, Canada on May 24, 1967. After approximately six years they moved to Kelowna, BC for Dad’s employment with BC Telephones.
Mom worked in real estate for many years and loved it. Mom was involved in various activities, including quilting clubs, swim clubs, volunteering at the Kelowna General Hospital and the airport for years. Mom and Dad resided at Balmoral Resort Community for over 20 years and were involved in the numerous activities they had to offer, as well as making many lifelong relationships. Mom was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed help. Mom was a talented quilter and knitter, and she enjoyed making many special meals for family and friends.
Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling with special friends and family throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States. At every opportunity, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and, later on, great-grandchildren.
Mom was a feisty Scottish lady, who was a force to be reckoned with at times, but she had a big heart and soul. We will miss her enormously… Life will never be the same.
Rena’s family would like to thank the many health care professionals that assisted with her care at Kelowna General Hospital and especially to the lovely staff at the Dorchester and, in the end, the Cottonwoods staff in the Bridgeway unit. You made the last few months of our mother’s life comfortable, treating her with so much care and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held on MAY 6, 2022, at 2:30 PM, at LAKEVIEW MEMORIAL CEMETERY, 2850 Dry Valley Road, Kelowna, BC. A celebration of life will follow at Four Points by Sheraton, 5505 Airport Way, Kelowna, BC. If you wish to attend, please click here to RSVP.

My thoughts go out to Ann, Sandra and family at this difficult time. Chuck and I have known Ian and Rena for the past 30 years, spending many great times together golfing, card games, dinners out. Rena always was a fun loving gal, making the best of everything. They will be very much missed. Peggy
