STEINKE, Mel

—

Passed away on May 12, 2016 at the age of 74. Survived by his loving wife Eileen (nee Teed) of Rock Creek; daughter Carmela (Jerry) Theroux of Rock Creek, BC; sons: Harley (Sue) Steinke of Kelowna, BC, Randy Steinke of Rock Creek and abroad; grandchildren: Violet Schafer of Lacombe, AB, Leatha Richey of Kelowna, BC; brother Sam Steinke of Wetaskiwin, AB and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and children that adopted him as “pa” and “grampa.”

Predeceased by his parents Martha and Gus Steinke, brothers August Steinke and Lawrence Steinke and sisters Delphi Versteegh and Rubena Bannister.

Mel had a very close family and he enjoyed attending those family reunions – now we look forward to seeing him at the greatest family reunion up in Heaven.

Mel had a great love for his children and always looked forward to their homecoming. He lived to serve others and was often there to help a neighbour in need.  His many passions included logging, saw milling, driving trucks, farming and flour milling with a grind stone as well as baking.  His travels took him across Canada visiting 8 provinces, many of the states and to Fiji and Guyana.  Gutamala would have been on the list if he hadn’t gotten ill in January.  Mel was the youngest of 8 that grew to adulthood.  Mel is at rest now waiting the call of the Life Giver. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at Rutland Seventh-day Adventist Church, 130 Gerstmar Road, with Pastor Cam Koronko officiating. Should family and friends so desire, memorial donation may be made to Adventist Disaster and Relief Agency (A.D.R.A.), 20 Robert Street W., Newcastle, ON  L1B 1C6.  For those wishing to send a condolence, photos or share memories, may do so by scrolling down this page to the area called “Share Your Condolences”.
