We Remember
STOCKELL, Jane (previously Heinemann)
July 30, 1946 — May 1, 2021
Our beloved Jane Stockell, 74 years, of Kelowna, BC, passed away peacefully with family at her side on May 1, 2021.
Born July 30, 1946, in Oldham, England to Jack and Mary Medley, Jane and her family immigrated to Australia In 1952. Jane grew up in Wollongong, a coastal town in NSW along with her two brothers, Jack and Philip. She spent most of her time with family and friends in the sun, on the beach. At the age of 18, Jane met Chris Heinemann on a cruise to England and moved to Kimberley, BC where she raised three children, Jody, Darin and Tara Lee. Seeking warmth and sunshine, Jane left Kimberley in 1992, and she made her home in Kelowna, BC. In 1999, she met her best friend, Mel Barber, together they lead a full and happy life in the Okanagan.
Jane was kind, outgoing, and she gave back to her community. She worked at the Kiwanas Tower for 10 years and enjoyed working with the seniors; she was an Honorary Lifetime member of the Kiwanis Summit Club. She also volunteered at The Society of Hope, SPCA, and other numerous community organizations. Jane loved people and animals and had many friends. She always had a smile on her face and was happy to see you. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, having coffee or a chat. Jane loved to travel, she was also delighted to be puttering around her garden.
She leaves behind her partner, and best friend for the past 20 years, Mel Barber; her children Jody, Darin (Gwen), and Tara Lee (Stuart) Kemp; and her grandchildren Kendra, Londen, Nick, and Joey. She is also survived by her siblings Jack (Alice) and Philip (Fiona); and her nieces & nephews: Pauline, Leoma, Sam, Tracey, and Nigel.
Heartfelt thanks to Myrna Tolles, the staff at the Hospice House, and Dr. Elizabeth Perri. Your care and compassion are deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House Central Okanagan or the BC SPCA Kelowna Community Animal Centre.
