We Remember

SURINE, Emma Victoria

February 2, 2015 — December 25, 2015

Passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015 at the age of 10 months and 23 days.  She is survived by her parents Dan and Melissa; twin sister Addison Lorainne; paternal grandfather Kevin Surine; paternal grandmother Cheryl Black; maternal grandparents Allan and Brenda Romanowski; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

Emma was born on Monday, February 2, 2015, at 6 pm. She couldn’t have been more perfect: lots of dark brown hair and chubby cheeks. She was a gentle and calm baby, only fussing when things really weren’t right. At 3.5 months of age, Emma was diagnosed with a terminal muscular condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, type 1. Her life expectancy was 1-2 years at best. Her parents made the most of her short life by creating many meaningful memories and giving her the best life possible. She will be forever missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Families of SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) Canada, 103 – 7134 Vedder Road, Chilliwack, BC V2R 4G4 www.curesma.ca.  For those wishing to send a condolence, photos or share memories, may do so by scrolling down this page to the area called “Share Your Condolences”.

I feel compelled to write to you and offer my support from my family to you. We lost an 11 day old baby 6 years ago – my granddaughter – so we can somewhat feel your pain. We knew several months before she was born that we would not be keeping her so, as with you, it was a long road of pain. Ally Grace is always with us – we think of her every day, and your beautiful Emma Victoria will always be with you. Please know that we are praying for you and my tears are falling as I write this. Peace and strength to you as you begin this most difficult journey. Bobbie.

  • Tyler & Vanessa Gilbert & family says:

    Love, Megan

  • Amanda Russell and Ian Dixon says:

Dan, Melissa and Addison – we are sorry we were unable to join you for your ceremony to say goodbye to our sweet little cousin Emma. We have loved all the photos and videos proud grandma Cheryl has shared with us. We think of you every day and are keeping you all close in our hearts. Sending our love to you all.
