We Remember

SWEDOS, Katherine Elizabeth

August 10, 1959 — May 27, 2024

It is with great sadness and a deep love that we announce the loss of Katherine Elizabeth Swedos, who passed away on May 27, 2024, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 64.

Left to hold her dear to their hearts are her mother, Mary Swedos; sisters, Deborah and Jacqueline Swedos; Stewie & Sidney – her two precious furbaby’s; cousin and adopted sister, Donna Conniff; and nephew, Jared Lamirante of Fargo, North Dakota; along with many friends within her community. Kathy now goes to join her father, George Swedos, who preceded her in death in 2018.

Kathy was born on August 10, 1959, in Vancouver, BC, and lived there until her family moved to West Kelowna, BC, in 1974. She made a career working at Crown Packaging in Richmond as a load mover and forklift driver, serving as a vendor representative for various companies at Home Depot, and excelled as a Senior Lead Merchandiser at TSC Nursery. Kathy had a love for gardening and nature, and was a passionate advocate for TinyKittens Rescue and Critteraid Animal Sanctuary, reflecting her deep compassion for animals. She was a caring, selfless, and incredible sister, friend, and human being who was known for her kindness and loyal heart. Kathy made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered, always walking tall and calling it as she saw it. She was truly a bright light in all the lives she touched and will never be forgotten.

Kathy’s family would like to give a special thanks to all the amazing nurses on 4West at Kelowna General Hospital, especially, Makayla, Elaine, Kat, Nicole, Logan, and Diana; the lovely support staff, Lynn and Lawrence; and caring doctors, Dr. Jim Huang and Dr. Sohayl Ghadiran. The family is extremely grateful for the love and support provided from Kathy’s many friends from Home Depot; as well as Ron, Laurie, Bob, Janet, and Marg who came to sit and visit with Kathy. A special thanks to Karl Davidson for his unwavering friendship in her last few days, and in helping Kathy to create her garden oasis. You have all been an incredible help throughout this difficult time.

A private family service in Kathy’s honour will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TinyKittens Society or Critteraid Animal Sanctuary.
