We Remember
SWEET, Gary
—
Today we share the loss of a beloved man, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to many. He passed away after a long heroic battle with illness on May 16, 2015 at Kelowna Hospice House, with loving family by his side.
Survived by his wife Darlene of 50 years, son Karey, daughter Shelley, grandchildren Brayden and Cassandra, brother George, sister Linda, nephews Mathew, Daryl and Jason, nieces Jana, Jessie, Aelish and Kirsten. Gary was a man’s kind of man. He loved his family dearly, gave wonderful hugs and valued his friendships, loved outdoors but most of all loved his trail rides with his beloved horse Sonny. They truly had a special bond. Therefore in place of a funeral service Gary’s wish was for a private outdoor service on a camping trip with family and a last trail ride with Sonny and close friends, which will put a smile on faces who knew him well. So to us who are grieving, he would say “Cowboy up, I’m happy now, at peace and in a better place.”
The family would like to express their gratitude to all who have expressed their sorrow of our loss, and many kind thoughts towards Gary. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Darlene and family with your loss of dear husband and father. Words cannot express the wonderful friendship we developed with Gary during our many trail rides over the past years. Gary taught us so much about horses, people and life. We send our thoughts and prayers and may this true cowboy rest in peace!
Darlene and family, I worked with Gary many years ago when he was selling trucks. He was a pleasure to be around and always had a smile on his face or a joke to share. I was not aware he was sick and am sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. Colleen Blaney
