SYMONDS, John Percy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John/Dad, cherished Husband, Father, Brother and Friend. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Anne, Sister Margaret, daughter Shireen (husband, Rod), two sons, Michael, and James (partner, Laureen). Step daughters Teri (grandchildren Gerrett, and Maya) and Cheryl, (Grandchildren Trisha, and Kyle). John was predeceased by his first wife Margaret, Brother Alan, and Nephew Hugh. Born at Hall Green, Birmingham, England, John joined the Fleet Air Arm as a Telegraphist Air Gunner (TAG) at the onset of WW II. In 1947 he immigrated to Canada, and worked at various Labour jobs in Ontario. He then ventured west to Alberta’s immerging oil and Gas industry, working in the Geophysical Seismic sector for the next 30+ years and traveling worldwide with the work. During this time he took work breaks as owner/operator of a Gas station/Motel in Peachland, and owner operator of a Private Rest Home in Salmon Arm, all the while raising a Family. Retiring to Kelowna in the early 80’s, John was widowed in 1989, and continued to reside in Kelowna.
John then met Anne, they married, and spent the next 20+ years enjoying travelling, gardening, family, entertaining Friends, and Okanagan life. John will always be remembered for his admirable courage, great strength, and everlasting smile. John’s family is grateful for the support of many friends during the past couple of years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St Andrews Anglican Church, 4619 Lakeshore Rd. at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 30th, Reception to Follow. Donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, Kidney Care/Dialysis unit Fund. Anne I was very sorry to read about John in the paper this morning. I have many fond memories of him when he would visit with the Scotts. I am so glad I seen you and him at Missionwood that day.

John was such a lovely character and a very intelligent and wise wee man and had a real nice way about him I can remember him like I saw him just the other day, a real wee gentleman.
