November 12, 2025 — November 12, 2025
In Loving Memory of
Ayame “Joan” Tanaka
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Ayame (Joan) Tanaka, age 94 years. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Beverley (Ron) Wyatt, their children: Tammy and Tracy (Le) Barnes; son Larry (Linda), their children: Kelsey and Lindsey; her great grandchildren: Willow and Echo Barnes and one step-great grandson, Christian. Joan is also survived by her brother-in-law Hatsumi Shigeyoshi and sister-in-law Amy Ueda; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ayame is preceded in death by her parents, husband Masao (Scotty), three brothers and three sisters. Ayame helped her brothers by picking fruit in their orchard. Later, she worked for Centennial Packers and on the Vaccaro farm. Eventually she would acquire a job with Burnett Florists and Nursery, where she remained for over 25 years. Even after retirement, she returned to lend a helping hand. She was also an active member at the Kelowna Buddhist Temple.
Joan was an avid sports fan, trying her hand in softball, snow skiing, cross-country skiing and bowling. Joan loved to collect anything to do with owls, particularly snowy owls. She enjoyed volunteering at the Blood Donor Clinic and Three Links Manor, where she eventually resided for the last six years. A special thank you to Dr. Rachael Carver, the nurses and care aides at Three Links Manor for their continuous concerns and compassionate care.
