We Remember

TATARYN, Aaron “Pee Wee”

May 25, 1936 — August 7, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Aaron Tataryn on August 7, 2024, at 88 years of age. Aaron passed away peacefully in the early hours of the morning at Kelowna General Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

Aaron was born on May 25, 1936, in Ketchen, Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doreen; their children Terri, Todd (Rita), and Brent (Kimberly); and 3 beautiful granddaughters, Danielle (Zack), Brianna (Ryan), and Tatum. He will also be missed by his siblings Steven (Ann) Tataryn, John Tataryn, Ruth (Bill) Chobotar, Esther (LuWayne) Stout, Lillian (Leslie) Berreth, Gloria Nicol, and Sylvia (Reg) Retzlaff. Aaron also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Helen, Pauline, Willie, Mary, Peter, Joseph, and Barbara.

Born to Ukrainian father Michael Tataryn and Saskatchewan born mother Frances Tataryn (née Maksymiw), Aaron was the fifth of six boys and eighth child born of fifteen surviving children; two of whom died in infancy. He was a logger for many years, and after leaving the logging industry, he became a forklift driver/yard foreman. Aaron was well-known in the building supply industry, working for Kelowna Brick and Block and OK Builders until his retirement.

He was proud of and enjoyed his meticulously maintained yard. His skilful hedge trimming had not a leaf out of place and was many a conversation in the neighbourhood. Strangers as well would stop, stare, and remark how he should sculpt animals out of his hedges. Aaron also loved hockey, fishing, cutting firewood, and country music — especially Charlie Pride. His life was full of work, his yard, family, and love. Aaron was kind, generous, and a man of integrity, whose quick wit and humour will be greatly missed.

We would like to thank Dr. Jones at KGH for the care, kind words, and support you offered to our family. We are forever grateful.

Aaron “Papa”, will be forever loved, always missed, and never forgotten.

In keeping with Aaron’s wishes, there will be no formal service.
