We Remember

TAYLOR, Jayson “Jay”

May 2, 1971 — January 11, 2022

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a legend, Jayson Del Taylor, on January 11, 2022, while surrounded by his family after a long hard battle with cancer.

Jay was a loving father, devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, loyal friend to many, and a warm-hearted, faithful family man.

Jayson was born in Kelowna, BC on May 2, 1971, he went to Belgo Elementary and graduated from R.S.S. in 1989. After school, Jay worked at Deep Six Enterprises as a truck driver, then moved to the coast and worked for Neptune as one as well. Shortly thereafter, he landed a job at Smurfit MBI. During those days at Smurfit, Jay met Kimberly and his life took a different direction; a year and a half after courting, they married.

They bought their first home in Tsawwassen, BC and had their first child, Sydney. With all the struggles of parenthood and their desire to have their children supported by family, they left the coast to come back to their homeland, Kelowna. Jay sought after a position at Crown Packaging, where he achieved the position of Shipping Manager. During his time there, Jay and Kimberly embraced the arrival of their second daughter Sophia and their family was complete!

After the plant closure, he took on a new career direction in Network Engineering. He worked a short time at school district 23 as an IT tech before he was hired on by Telus as a service tech and remained there until his passing. In 2018, Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and admirably fought a long, hard battle with the utmost strength and tenacity before passing on January 11 at 1:50 AM, he was 50 years old.

Jayson loved everything outdoors; hunting, fishing, and exploring the woods was where he thrived. Jayson loved all things electronic and gadget. He loved his home and all his comforts, and was a true creature of habit. His girls and family were his world. He was loved by so many and will leave a huge hole in all of our hearts.

He leaves behind his committed wife of 21 years, Kimberly; their 2 beautiful girls, Sydney Grace Iris and Sophia Anna Lynn; his devoted mother Diane; brother Cory (Michele); his special mother-in-law Pat; brother in law Chris (Ana) and family; sister-in-law Tamra; uncle Ed Helfrick (Gloria) and family; his large extended family, cousins, nieces, & nephews, and the entire Hansen clan; and his band of brothers Dan Ross (Taryn), Dallas Blake, Keith Kepes (Tammy), Kevin D’Costa, and all of their immediate families. Jay was sadly predeceased by his father, John Eugene Taylor (d. 2001) and father-in-law Dell Hansen (d. 2017), and brother-in-law David Gellatley (d. 2020).

A Celebration of Life will be held to honour Jayson on SATURDAY, JANUARY 15, 2022, AT 1:00 PM (PST), at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. All are welcome to attend. I was saddened to read about the passing of Jay. I have many memories of the times he came into the classroom to support Sophia at our special Parent and Child celebrations. Jay was an involved parent who embraced the fun and games we played at these events. I remember his kind nature and the way he always made me feel appreciated. Sophia, may this photo bring back memories of your wonderful father and be a reminder of his love and desire to always be there for you. Dear Diane, my long time devoted friend; my fond memories of Jay and his younger brother Cory, remain vivid in my mind as it was yesterday. Living down the street from you and watching your boys and my girls growing up happens way too fast. I recall Jay’s modelling picture, he was such a handsome young man who became a father of two beautiful girls. Diane, I know how it feels to lose a child and I am so sorry you and your family had to endure the pain and suffering through a long hard fight that Jay had to deal with. You as a mother Diane, always put your boys first, no matter what, and I know in my heart that Jay knew you had his back at all times. God bless you all and rest in peace Jay as you no longer need to suffer.

We loved Jay and he will always live in our hearts as a friend who was constant, steady, quick to laugh, kind… a rock. He was there for us at all times… even putting a home phone into their bedroom in case, while my husband worked away, I’d ever be in trouble or need help. Jay was the first to shovel my driveway, the first to help out anyone in need, with a huge smile and the most lovable soul. Jay will be dearly missed by the Zimmer family.… but remain close in our hearts in our beautiful memories of raising our little ones together. Thank you Jay for all the beauty you added into our lives. Kim… you gave your life for him each step of the way. You have walked in strength and dignity, hand in hand with God as your strength. Many of us in our lives are fortunate enough to be part of a team. A work team, a sports team, a community team. Whatever the team, it’s a group of people who have come together for a common purpose. Jay was part of our TELUS team and we are proud to call him a teammate. Most teams experience the highs and lows, work together, solve problems together, laugh together and are forever bonded together as teammates. Jay, you always will be a part of our TELUS team. And, as you watch over us, if you learn the secret of how to contact other TELUS departments without waiting on hold, could you please share it with us? We’d certainly appreciate it.
Sincerely, your West Kelowna TELUS Team
