We Remember
THERRIEN, Raymond
June 10, 1932 — August 16, 2025
Born in Sainte Amelie, Manitoba, Ray was one of 11 children. Though the family had little in terms of material wealth, they were rich in what truly mattered—strong family bonds, laughter, and a deep-rooted spirit of generosity.
Ray left school at an early age to pursue a life of hard work and adventure. A true entrepreneur at heart, he followed opportunity across the country—from the prairies of Manitoba to the forests of Ontario and British Columbia. Along the way, he met and married the love of his life, Alice (née Duclos). Their 67-year marriage was built on shared determination, resilience, and a zest for life.
Ray’s ventures were as diverse as his talents—logging, taxis, racehorses, orchards, and founding successful bus and tour companies, some of which continue to this day. No matter the industry, Ray was always dreaming, building, and thinking ahead. His determination could be stubborn, his dreams sometimes outpaced practicality, but these very traits were part of what made him unforgettable.
Despite his many accomplishments, Ray’s greatest legacy is the value he placed on family. He was a man of few words, and though he didn’t often express his love through grand gestures or declarations, we always knew he cared—in the quiet, steadfast ways that mattered most. We are endlessly grateful to have had him as our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Ray was predeceased by his wife Alice; his daughter Gail Ferguson; and his siblings Joseph, Leo, Emile, Ernest, Lucien, Simone, Larry, and stepbrother René. He is survived by his daughters Carol and Tracey (Brett Laing); grandchildren Devi Ferguson (Gared), Courtenay Heetebrij (Gordie), Lucas Ferguson (Cayman); and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Lucille, Roger (Rita), Leo (Doris), and by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Though he will be missed, we know he’s already enjoying a good party with his wife, daughter, siblings, and many friends—laughing, telling stories, and toasting us all–salut!
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held in the spring of 2026.
