We Remember
THIELMANN, Emma Helen (nee Ross)
April 20, 1941 — July 6, 2016
Emma lovingly known as “Ma Kettle, Aymah” was born on April 20, 1941, in Meadow Lake Saskatchewan and passed away on July 6, 2016 in Kelowna, BC, after a brief illness, with her granddaughter Julia at her side. Sadly predeceased by niece Debbie Ross (1985) husband Victor Hans Thielmann in 2003, father Paul Ross in 1997, and mother Veronica Ross in 1999.
Survived by her two loving sons, Ross and Scott (Jenny), her amazing and beautiful grandchildren Julia, Josh, Abby, Zack and Zoe who brought her so much joy; her sisters Dorothy Fraser, Irene Youngston, Florence Ross, brothers Van, Jimmy and Tommy Ross, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and her cousins in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
Emma was born the youngest of 7 children to Paul and Veronica Ross, in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. They worked hard on their farm, and with their cousins, built a warm, loving and accepting family. The family re-located to Prince George when Emma was a teenager. It was there that she met Vic Thielmann and fell in love. Emma and Vic were a fun-loving couple – everyone remembers good times spent at their place. Ross and Scott were born in Prince George, and then later they moved to Spruce Grove, Alberta. Then thirty years ago, Emma and Vic moved to their house in Peachland, where Emma lived until his passing. It was during this time that Emma worked at Blaze King, and learned public speaking through Dale Carnegie. She drove the Blaze King van all across Canada and it was during this time that Emma re-discovered her Metis roots and re-connected with relatives in Meadow Lake. It was also when Vic was taken from her prematurely. Emma loved her family, and she loved her home. She enjoyed sitting on the deck, looking over the lake, waiting for the full moon to come out. She always had an open-door policy toward family and extended family visits, and was well known for her warm hospitality, sense of fun, and her amazing guest book that everyone had to sign. Emma was a huge sports fan, watching lots of hockey, tennis and golf; and loved playing games – especially golf, Scrabble, and cards. She played Scrabble online against many family members. Emma was so proud of her two sons, Ross and Scott. Emma loved spending time with them – especially watching Scott play guitar, and enjoying gourmet meals prepared by Ross. She really looked forward to the special trips to the Caymans to visit Ross and Abby. She loved watching her sons become fathers and thoroughly enjoyed her wonderful grandchildren. Fun-loving as ever, Emma was an energetic and playful grandmother – you could often find her playing games with her grandchildren, getting her hair and makeup done, talking to them, and taking them down to the watering hole to spend some fun times together. Emma was an optimistic and good spirited woman, a hilarious and special sister, a warm and fun friend to many, a caring neighbour, and a wonderful mom and grandma. Emma will be so missed by so many. A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Legion in Peachland, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Heartfelt condolence to all the Thielmann and Ross families. I know it is a great loss to have some one like Emma be absent from her loved family. Being the youngest of the Thielmann siblings I did not have a whole lot of contact with Vic and Emma, Ross and Scott, but I recall the first summer out of High School Vic and Emma hosted me at their place in PG as I took on my first real job away form home. Other contacts over the years confirmed Emma’s caring and open heart for all she met.
I regret that Lil and I will not be available for the Memorial so we express our love and best wishes to the family from afar. We will actually be on a weeklong charity bicycle ride on the Rocky Mountain Triangle, and will be remembering you as we pedal our way through the Rockies. May God Bless and comfort you all.
Rest in Peace my dear friend. We had some good times golfing together and I shall treasure the memories.
So sorry to hear of your loss, Scott and Ross.
When ever I saw her, she was always smiling.I know she will be greatly missed.
Emma and I have been friends since we were in Grade one. I am going to miss our annual visit and scrabble game. RIP dear friend.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ross and Thielmann familys .
I am so sad to hear of this. I just found out today. I worked with Emma at Valley Comfort/Blaze King for 7 years and her positive outlook was infectious. She was always smiling, always optimistic. Her energy level defied her age. I am sorry to have missed her funeral. Condolences to her kids and grandkids. She talked of you often in glowing terms.
Dear Ross & Scott & family, We want to express our sympathy to you at the loss of your dear mother & grandma. We called her in April for her birthday & she told me about her illness and we told her that we would pray for healing. She is now in her heavenly home and has no more pain!
