HAZELL, Thomas Roland George
May 7, 1930 – July 8, 2011
After a month of visiting with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and close friends, Thomas Roland George Hazell of Kelowna passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the age of 81 years. Known to many as “Duff,” Tom spent most of his life in Kelowna. While he was young, Tom worked on the railroad around Beaverdell before moving to the Okanagan Mission to farm an orchard and drive truck locally. Eventually, Tom set up and operated his own pest control company, which he retired from when he was 67. Even after his retirement, Tom continued to grow and sell amazing fruit which he was known for far and wide. When the weather was nice, family and friends could find Tom outside in his garden, working in his yard, or tending to his fruit trees. When he wasn’t around home, Tom was off with a friend or two, hunting or fishing. Tom loved to spend his time outdoors. Tom is survived by his four children; Tom Hazell, Sharon (Allen) Jackson, Lianne Hazell, and Tim (Lauri) Hazell, his six grandchildren; Angela (Michael) Kelly, Kevin (Jackie) Barnes, Shaun Hazell, Nikki Hazell, Amanda Auch, and Sherri Courtoreille, and his six great grandchildren; Cody, Ryan, Keaton, Annie, Elliot, and Nicholas. Tom is also survived by his good friends Lloyd and Wendy Auch, and Leona Pruss. Tom was predeceased by his mother and father, Tom and Inez Hazell. Tom’s family would like to say a special thanks to the wonderful people at the Village at Smith Creek for their caring and kindness. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16th at the Village at Smith Creek, 2425 Orlin Road, West Kelowna.
