We Remember
THOMPSON, John Charles
October 15, 1949 — June 20, 2026
At the age of 76, John Charles Thompson passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, in Kelowna, BC.
John was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, and lived a life defined by strength, courage, and resilience. He built a life he was proud of; one filled with family, friendship, travel, and plenty of stories along the way.
He is reunited with his beloved wife of 33 years, Diane Thompson; his father, Dick Thompson; his mother, Joan Thompson (née Langhorn); and his brother, Richard Thompson. Left to treasure his memory are his children, Kelly (Jason) Van Montfoort and Tim Thompson; his grandchildren, Tristan Van Montfoort and Eli Thompson; his siblings, Dave Thompson, Cynthia Butterwick, and Ken Thompson; and his extended family, including Jamie and Hank Van Montfoort.
John enjoyed a successful career in retail management, but his real passion was making the most of life. Whether he was riding his Harley, golfing with friends, spending winters in Arizona in his RV, or travelling to new places, he was always looking forward to the next adventure. He even spent some time as an extra in Hallmark movies, one more experience to add to a long list of things he wanted to try. In true John fashion, he managed to check off just about everything on his bucket list, leaving this world with few regrets and tons of memories.
John was a fun and devoted dad who loved taking his children on adventures, keeping them active, and gathering everyone around for games and laughter. As his children grew older, he remained a steady source of support, always generous with his time, money, advice, and encouragement.
Being a grandfather brought him immense joy. Tristan and Eli will always remember how special he made them feel and the genuine interest he took in their lives. He was the kind of grandpa who showed up, cheered them on, and made every visit memorable.
John also cherished his close circle of friends – his beloved “posse” of Ralph, Joanne, Greg, Heather, and Brad. Whether they were golfing, playing cards, meeting for coffee, or teasing one another relentlessly, those friendships meant the world to him.
His sense of humour never left him, and he had a way of cracking jokes even during life’s more difficult moments. Above all, John will be remembered as a man who embraced life with enthusiasm, valued the people around him, and was always ready for the next adventure.

When you hear the rumble of a motorcycle in the distance or the sharp crack of a golf ball being struck, take a moment to think of John, smile, and remember a life well lived.
