We Remember
Thompson, Russell
—
Passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the age of 53. Survived by his loving mother, Margaret Thompson, brother Michael Thompson, sister Trisha all of Kelowna, BC and one nephew Alexander Thompson Degagne of Calgary, AB. Sadly predeceased by his father Harvey A. Thompson. Russ was born in Summerside, PEI, the youngest son of three children. In 1972, our dad bought a vineyard, so Russell grew up mostly in Kelowna after our family moved here from Edmonton. He was only 12 years old, but Russ learned quickly about hard work and farming in the Okanagan. He was a meticulous and excellent pruner – no one could drive tractor at high speed and disc like Russ!! He could lay tilled soil under the grape vines like art in motion. Around 1988 he moved to Calgary and met his life’s love – the trucking industry. Once he earned enough money to enroll in Professional Drivers Classes…he was hooked on the big rigs. Everything about this profession was enjoyable to Russ; even the high pitched whine of the turbine was a lullaby. After the death of our father, Russ decided to move back home, looking after our mother and helping her work our family farm. Earlier this year he began trucking for Comet Transport, and thought of them as extended family. Russ was a very protective, loyal and loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor and many funny Russellisms exclusive to only him. My brother was a well loved man whose patient, big caring heart and quirky gesturing will forever bring a smile and lovely memories to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC with Mr. Clair Jantzen officiating. As an expression of sympathy, you may send flowers or memorial donations to: BC Heart & Stroke Foundation, #4 – 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9.

My heartfelt sympathies to the all of you. Russ was like a little brother to me. When the family first moved to Kelowna, Russ and Randy became fast and lasting friends. He used to spend a lot of time at our house, many times without saying a word, and poof he would be gone, and then show up again the next day. Remember all the laughter and the good times, as I am sure there are many. RIP little bro – Love Julie

Russ was a wonderful friend and employee. His work ethic was second to none, his truck the envy of all because it was always immaculate. Russ was a gentle strong man whose grin was infectious. We will miss him. Thank you for sharing him with us.
Russ was a very special to me. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Mrs. Thompson, Trisha and Alexander;
My deepest sympathies on the loss of Russ. I have many memories of him, and he is thought of often and will be remembered fondly. He has a special place in my heart always.
Words cannot begin to express how sad I was to hear of Russ. Trisha, Margaret, just know my arms are wrapped around you. Mike, I too feel the pain of losing a brother. As someone else said, we’ll always remember that “infectious grin”. With love and hearfelt sympathy, Tom & all the Polmear Family.
