We Remember

TOEWS, Evelyn Mildred

November 17, 1927 — November 8, 2013

It is with heavy hearts that we need to tell everyone that our mother, our friend, passed away on November 8, 2013. She was born in Dryden, Ontario on November 17, 1927 and moved to Vancouver in 1951. After Dad’s passing in 1993, we moved her to Kelowna to be closer to us. Mom is survived by her daughters Valerie (Lloyd) Hedstrom, Vicki (Dave) Osmond and Son Richard (Holly) Toews; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Out of 7 siblings, Mom is survived by her brother Bert (deceased wife, Lorraine) and Lonnie Sherwood of White Rock; and sister Connie (Dave Gillespie) of Reno, Nevada. Mom loved to share her knowledge, wisdom, and her opinions. She was a caring and loving woman, she loved to walk, read and have the odd nip of scotch. There will be no service at Mom’s request. Donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation – 1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V2. We would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at Spring Valley Care Home where Mom lived for the past year. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Condolences

  • Doreen Marks says:

My heartfelt condolences to the family. A few years ago, I spoke and visited with Evelyn a few times, because her husband, your father, Henry was my first cousin on the Loewen side of the family. My dad, Peter, was your grandmother Agatha (Loewen) Toews’ brother. Evelyn & I spoke on the telephone periodically, but due to my own health issues, I hadn’t spoken to her for over a year. Ironically, just a week or so ago, I was sorting some cards, letters etc. and came across one of her cards, wondered how she was doing. As the old cliche goes, I wish I had called then. Again, please accept my sincerest condolences, and may your precious memories comfort and sustain you and yours. Doreen (Loewen) Marks.

  • Jim Maurice says:

Evelyn was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I will miss her being a passenger on the bus to the casinos. Jim Maurice

  • Linda Bowser says:

I am sorry for your loss. I enjoyed my conversations with your mother at the condo.
