TOFTNER, Florence “Flo”

December 28, 1934 — March 22, 2024

Florence “Flo” Toftner died peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2024, in the Kelowna General Hospital with her loving family at her side.

Flo was born the third of four children to Natalie and William Hetke in Whitemouth, Manitoba on December 28, 1934.  The family relocated to the Okanagan Valley while Florence was a young girl and they lived on a small farm and orchard in the Kelowna area.

Flo was always a hard worker and picked fruit in her father’s orchard to earn the money necessary to buy her first car, of which she was very proud.  She attended the Kelowna Seventh-Day Adventist church where she met her husband, Merle Toftner.  They courted for a few years and married on July 13, 1954.  The two newlyweds moved to Williams Lake where Merle worked for Jacobson Lumber until they eventually moved to Peoria, Alberta, and farmed successfully from 1960 until 1996.  During this time, Flo and Merle welcomed their three children, Greg, Tammie, and Cindy.  They moved back to Kelowna after retiring from farming.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; sister Agnes (Kutzner); and her beloved husband Merle.  She is survived by her sister Nettie (English); brother Elsworth; brother-in-law James Toftner; son Greg; daughters Tammie (Hanebuth) and Cindy; two grandchildren; six nieces; and four nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Springfield Funeral Home.
