We Remember
TRACEY, Dionne Eleanor
August 8, 1968 —
It is with heavy hearts, but with a focus on the light she brought to the world, that the family of Dionne Tracey announces her passing on April 14, 2026, at Kelowna General Hospital. She was 57 years old.
Born on August 8, 1968, Dionne was the third child of Jeanette Margaret and George Eric Tracey. She grew up in a busy household as the youngest sister to Francine and Monica, and a big sister to her brother, Alan, together with their Auntie Therise Runge.
Dionne was a woman of simple pleasures and a truly selfless heart. While she didn’t have much in the way of worldly possessions, she was incredibly generous with the things that mattered most: her time, her kindness, and her easy-going company. To Dionne, a perfect day involved good food, her favorite cigarettes, and a long, wandering chat with a friend or family member.
She possessed a legendary sense of humor-dry, sarcastic, and quick. Dionne was the person who could find the irony in any situation, and her “happy-go-lucky” spirit was infectious. Even as she faced her own internal battles with depression and self-esteem that made it difficult for her to prioritize her own health, that kind, friendly core never faded. She was a carefree soul who preferred to live in the moment rather than worry about the future.
In her younger years, Dionne was a homeowner and a familiar face in various retail roles, always ready with a smile for her customers. During a long-term common-law relationship that ended in 2013, she poured her heart into being a stepmother to Dana Marie and Dillan Choquette. She loved those children dearly and cherished the time they spent together.
Dionne was a lifelong animal lover who found great peace in the company of her pets; she is now reunited with her beloved cat and her two cherished dogs, all of whom were her constant companions and brought her immense comfort throughout her life.
While her family deeply feels the struggle of her final journey and the health complications she couldn’t quite overcome, they choose to celebrate the Dionne who was a “foodie,” a quick wit, and a good friend to those that were close with her. She may have lost her way at times, but she never lost her sweetness.
She is survived by her sisters, Francine and Monica Tracey; her brother, Alan Tracey; her stepchildren, Dana Marie and Dillan; her mother, Jeanette; her Auntie Therise Runge; and many cousins and friends who will miss her unmistakable chuckle.
A private family gathering to share stories and a few “Dionne-style” laughs will be held at a later date.
“She lived life on her own terms, with a kind heart and a sense of humour that we will never forget.”
