We Remember
TRUANT, Ronald Louis
April 22, 1941 — July 15, 2023
With heavy hearts, we announce that on July 15, 2023, Ron Truant passed away peacefully while surrounded by the love of his family.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Louis & Della Truant, and his oldest daughter, Connie MacDonald. Ron will be remembered by his wife of over 50 years, Patricia; children, Danny, Penny, Laurie, and Lisa (Andy); his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Arlene and Cindy.
Ron was born in South Porcupine, Ontario on April 22, 1941, where he grew up before moving to Southern Ontario after high school. Ron was a tireless worker with numerous careers, and he and Pat raised 5 children in various locations around Ontario prior to moving to BC in 1985. Ron remained out west and spent his last 15 years living in Kelowna, where he enjoyed playing golf (and, wearing socks with his sandals despite the ribbing he received from his family).
Ron was a great storyteller with a great sense of humour that would have us laughing until our stomachs hurt, he even laughed at his own jokes most of the time. He had many stories of growing up in Northern Ontario with his friends and family. In particular, Ron had great memories of his time spent with his sister Arlene. Besides playing golf, Ron enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports (and although he couldn’t skate, he always had plenty of hockey tips for the boys).
The family would like to thank the numerous staff at David Lloyd Jones Care Home and the Hemodialysis Unit at KGH who cared for Ron the last few years.
We know Ron is up there, with his family and friends that left before him, laughing, eating spaghetti and sharing a cold beer. Forever in our hearts. Until we meet again!
By request, there will be no service.

A lovely tribute to your dad, Lisa. I will always remember his friendly smile and the after the hockey game conversations! Sincere sympathy to all the family.
So sorry to hear of this. Had a few telephone chats no long ago reminiscing about many years ago. A great high school buddy!
I am so sorry to hear of my cousin Ron. I only found out 3 days ago. My sincere condolences to all your family. I am your fathers first cousin. His father’s brother Umberto (Berto) from Trail was my father. I have been in communication with Arlene and Cyndee for a few years now, and when Arlene and Ron came to Trail about 16 ir so years ago, we all got together with them at one of my sisters’ homes. I have a photo somewhere. My sisters are Anita and Lilliana, both deceased. Anita died a week ago today, Aug 17/’23, age 95. Lil died 4.5 years ago. I, Eileen, have been the gatherer of family histories and stories. I was never able to connect with Ron as he didnt want to. No problem at all. I loved reading about who Ron was through your lovely obit of him. I love old stories of growing up with my uncles and aunts… Im a younger child too and missed a lot of direct family experience and so value stories very much. I forgot to mention that I met Ron and his sisters and my Uncle Gigi and Aunt Della in 1966 when my first husband and I took a trip across Canada. We came to Timmins to meet you all. I dont know if you, his children, live in Kelowna. If so Im so sorry about the horrific fires…. my child and grandchildren recently evacuated from Yellowknife. I would dearly love to connect with any of you, if thats possible. I would love to hear some stories of growing up in Timmins. I used to send Xmas cards… my mom did too. I think I still have their address in my moms address book, which I kept. She died in 1988. Again, I send my condolences. May your dad RIP. Love from cousin Eileen
