TSUBOUCHI, Kazuko “Kay”

February 21, 1933 — May 12, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Kazuko (Kay) Tsubouchi announces her passing on May 12, 2025, at the age of 92 in Kelowna, BC.

Kay was born on February 21, 1933, in Mission, BC, to Hediki and Mitsuye Mitsunaga.   Later, Kay moved to Fort William (Thunder Bay, ON), where she met the love of her life, Kenji (Ken) Tsubouchi.  They married in 1957 and had raised two loving sons: Terry and Kelly Tsubouchi.

Kay worked as a hairdresser at Pinewood Court.  In 1987, Kay and Ken relocated to Kelowna, BC, where Kay resumed her passion for hairdressing by volunteering at a home for seniors.

Kay enjoyed various sports, including golfing, bowling, and curling, which she had to pleasure of doing in both Thunder Bay and Kelowna – finally retiring from golf at the age of 89.  If she was not participating herself, she could be found enjoying watching sports on television.  Family ensured not to interrupt her TV viewing schedule of sports, Chicago Wednesdays, and especially, Heartland.

Kay was predeceased by her husband of 60 years; her parents; her mother and father-in-law (Hyakuzo and Umenyiora Tsubouchi); siblings Sue, Dick and Sammy as well as additional extended family members.

Left to mourn her loss are children Terry (Ivana) and Kelly (Cathy); grandchildren Amanda (Nick) and Juno. She is survived by many members of her extended family.

The family would like to thank the attending EMS staff and staff of the Kelowna General ER.

A service, with Celebrant Ali Sheck, will be held on THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM (PDT), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. A reception will be held following the service. Another celebration will be held in Thunder Bay, ON, at a later date.
