We Remember

UHRICH, Leslie William

June 3, 1931 — October 9, 2026

Les Uhrich was born in Saskatoon on June 3, 1931, and passed away in West Kelowna on October 9, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Les came to B.C. in 1959 and between 1960-1990 owned and operated 3 different service stations.  His first station was with B/A (British American Oil) in North Vancouver, which later became Gulf; then in 1970, he went on to run Bon Accord Esso in Surrey; and then finally an Esso gas bar in Newton, retiring in 1988.

Les enjoyed watching sports on TV and took pride in keeping his cars in showroom condition. When he and Carol lived in Newton, he could often be found mowing the lawn on his ride-on mower, with a cold beer in hand. Another of Les’s passions was camping. He started out with a camper and eventually moved on to various trailers, a motorhome, and finally a fifth wheel. Each one equipped with a TV so he could keep up with his favourite programs, wherever the road took him. Playing pool and visiting the casinos were among Les’s other favourite pastimes.

Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; his son, Lee, and daughter-in-law, Paivi; and his daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law, Dan; and 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful, caring staff at the Village at Smith Creek for the kindness, compassion, and excellent care they provided.

Les will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
