We Remember
Ulsifer, Jeanette
January 21, 1950 — November 16, 2012
On November 16, 2012 we sadly lost our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and closest friend Jeanette Ulsifer at the young age of 62. Jeanette was born in Unity, Saskatchewan and spent many of her years in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Kelowna, British Columbia. Jeanette was a great listener. She had a way of understanding that could solve any problem with gentle compassion. She took great joy in laughing at funny stories that often brought tears to her eyes. The ability to remember birthdays and anniversaries for every person she had ever known was an incredible gift we all admired. She never wished ill will toward any person, and had an open heart for all. Always giving selflessly, she was there for family and friends no matter what. Renovations, moves, babysitting and support, she never once complained, she never once said no. A game of Kanasta with her was always a welcome time spent, taking no nonsense from anyone, she played the game with poise and a smile, even when losing. Jeanette loved the outdoors, working in the garden, going for nature walks and enjoying the scenery. She was a fixer of teddy bears, mending brokens hearts and making her the only qualified person for the job – a true grandma who knew just how to fix anything. Her lifelong dream of seeing Scotland was fullfilled and became the beginning of a close and special relationship with her cousins Linda and Pauline and their families. This completed the family circle which had begun with her mom which she had held dear to her heart. Jeanette dedicated her life to being a wife and mother, always there to listen, always there to give and love. Her quiet strength was a pillar that we could always lean on and depend on. Wonderful, kind, nice, selfless, generous, thoughtful, caring, loving and always with a beautiful smile and warm heart. In the last four months of her life she was more concerned for everyone around her than for herself. Not wanting anyone to worry for her, showing once again her strength and resiliant spirit. “I love you all so much!” – her words will be with us forever. Thank you for everything. Time will never make your loss any easier, nor diminish our love for you. Jeanette is survived by her loving husband Brian Ulsifer of 43 years, her daughter Stacey Ulsifer, son-in-law Marco Defreitas and grandchildren Ethan, Keira and Nicolas; her son Steve Ulsifer, daughter-in-law Lindsay Ulsifer and grandchildren Sara and William; her brother Edwin Hawthorn (Lenore) and brother Brian Hawthorn (Darlene) and her many wonderful family and friends. Jeanette is predeceased by her cherished mother Jean Hawthorn and her father Elmer Hawthorn. A private family gathering will be held in honor of Jeanette’s life.
