We Remember
UNSER, Jack
March 15, 1946 — August 13, 2022
Jack Unser was born March 15, 1946, in Kelowna, BC, and passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on August 13, 2022, at Kelowna Hospice House.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandy; his cherished daughters Jacqueline Unser and Tracy Yamabe (Troy); and his treasured grandchildren Tori Hansen, Malia Yamabe and Kobe Yamabe. He is also survived by his sisters Cindy and Diane, as well as many extended family and lifelong friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents Vern and Margaret Unser.
Growing up in Kelowna, Jack attended Martin Elementary School and graduated from Kelowna Senior Secondary School. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Sandy Delgatty. In 1972 Jacqueline was born, and in 1974 Tracy completed the family. He worked as a printer at The Kelowna Daily Courier for 44 years. He was a dedicated, reliable and hard worker. His favourite times were always spent with his family. He loved trips to Spokane, Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm; cruises with Sandy to Alaska and California; camping with family; and being out in the bush getting firewood. Jack had a passion for, and owned, many classic cars and street rods, including his prized 1948 Mercury. He loved country music, his favourites being Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr. and George Jones.
Jack was a loyal and devoted family man with a big heart. Even though he didn’t like to ask for help with things, he was always more than willing to help others, and he never complained. He was funny and always had a story or one–liner anywhere he went. He was beyond proud of his family, and his grandchildren were the true shining light of his life. He loved them beyond the moon, and they knew it.
We would like to give our special thanks to Dr. Kates and the renal team, as well as Dr. Outram, for the special care and attention that was given to Jack. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory would be welcomed to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or Diabetes Canada.
Go rest high on that mountain
