We Remember
VERWOLD, Mavis (Kathleen) (née Greenfield)
—
Mavis was born on August 30, 1940, in Calgary, Alberta and went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 16, 2020 after a heroic 14-year battle with cancer. She remained joyful on the journey and all those around her were blessed and inspired by her grace, strength, humility and ability to care for others.
Mave is dearly missed by her love of 63 years, Wally; children Christel, Rick, Sherry (Dan) and Scott (Janine); 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; siblings Lorraine, Ken (Irene), Bill, Dave (Pat); as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Mavis’ parents, Frank and Ruby Greenfield, siblings Alan, Leita, Marjorie and granddaughter Kaleigh passed on before her.
Decisions about how we will gather to celebrate Mavis’ life will take place at a later time. At present, we can all honour Mavis by finding ways to offer hospitality and compassion to those around us in these challenging times, as we know she would be doing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, www.llscanada.org , Pines Bible Camp or Hope International Development agency, www.hope-international.com.

It’s been so many years since I saw Mavis, but her warmth and welcoming was always such a gift. I spend many hours in your home as a child. Swimming in the pool and climbing the Willow tree out front My heartfelt condolences to Wally, Crystel, Rick, Sherry, Scott and all the rest of the extended family. Praying for comfort and sharing the great hope of seeing her again. Knowing that we do not grieve as those without hope.
My heartfelt condolences go out to you Wally and family. Mavis was a dear lady and will be missed. I so enjoyed my Thursday mornings with her at Trinity as she faithfully served with a willing heart, a positive attitude and always a smile. Wally my prayers are with you as you walk this journey. May you know comfort, hope and peace from our Father of love.

Wally, thank you for your phone call this morning, sad as it was..
Mavis and I have been friends since the early 1980s when we were part of the Vancouver Court Team. She gave me solace during some personal upheavals and gave me advice that I have NEVER forgotten, and have since passed on to others but always giving Mavis the credit!
As I mentioned this morning, you and Mavis were inspirational to me and I am eternally grateful for our long friendship.
I have contacted others from the VCT, and they all expressed their love for Mavis and convey their condolences to you.
My love and condolences to you and your family, Marilyn Desmarais

Having worked with Mavis for years at the Vancouver Court Team, I will always remember her as a very pleasant and fun loving person. Mavis and I together with another support staff person drove to work together for weeks during the last bus strike. There was laughter from start to finish everyday back and forth. Mavis you will always be remembered.
