We Remember

VON HOLLEN, Jim

Jim von Hollen went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 19, 2024. Left to mourn his presence, but also to remember and cherish his memory, are his 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, his brother Walter and his family, and a large extended family.

Jim was faithful in his service to God and others, known for his quiet dedication. He had a keen interest in history, and loved exploring back roads on his road trips, all over Canada, with his children. He enjoyed spending time with his family, had a quick dry wit, and appreciated a good debate. He will be forever kept close in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, or ShareWord Global (previously Gideons).

Condolences

  • LA Henry says:

Deepest condolences to cousins Sharon, Jim, Jeff, Mary, Sarah, Daniel and their spouses and children. Uncle Jim was my favourite uncle when I was growing up. I think of his gentleness, his wit, and the affection he always showed me. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know him while growing up – and every visit with him and his family was a great treat! Uncle Jim had a kind, gentle spirit – love to all of you!

  • Wendy Gillis says:

My thoughts are with you in these hard times. I wish I could be there to share stories of the life of a wonderful man. Lots of love sent your way ❤️

  • Brenda woodland says:

When I look at the picture of uncle Jim it reminds me of our times with him at mom and dad’s at Thorsby. We didn’t see much of uncle Jim growing up but so enjoyed getting to know him then. Love him for coming to dad’s bedside when he was dying and saying a prayer for him for me, love you, Uncle Jim Rest in peace

  • Patty and Harvey Byers says:

Deepest condolences to the whole family. In the last couple years that Dad was alive Uncle Jim came to spend 2 weeks with dad and I had the fortune of getting to. Know uncle Jim all over again I was so appreciative that he mad it to dads bedside and prayed for him. It will mean more then anybody knows me.

My thoughts are with you at this time. The torch is passed to the next generation!

  • Gordon von Hollen says:

    Sharon, Jim, Jeff,

I remember the time that your Dad stopped by with kids in tow in a small Volkswagen Beetle complete with a washing machine or dryer slashed on top of of the Beetle. How did they get everything into that Beetle bug to take them to their next home in Winnipeg I believe it was. The rush was on to get to their next stop as soon as possible, thus the need for Jeff to use a pop bottle as a rest stop.

    Just one memory I have.

Another memory was meeting Jim in Smithers British Columbia by chance. I was at my first job as an assayer at Noranda Mines, Granisle British Columbia. We met by chance while both enjoying a meal at a local restaurant in Smithers. Jim was travelling on behalf of Volkswagen Canada. An enjoyable meeting we had.

  • Pat & Wendy Melanson says:

HI folks…so great we could at least be there online with you today….our condolences on your loss of Jim…
How nice it was to hear so much of Jim’s life that we did not know.
May God’s blessing and comfort be with you all… Pat & Wendy (Nana and Grand dad)

  • Donna &Roger Fouillard says:

So sad we could not be there. Thoughts and prayers are definitely with you all. I definitely enjoyed the visits when at mom and dads. Sending a big hug and lots of love to all.❤️

  • Dick & Eleanor Snook says:

We appreciated very much the few times that we were able to visit Jim and family in Kelowna. We found we had common faith systems and we shared photographs and family information. It was from Jim that I obtained the contact information for our common half-brother, Walter. We hope to be able to view the online service when it becomes available. “If Christ has not been raised then our faith is in vain.”
