WADLEIGH, John Douglas
May 28, 1923 — July 22, 2019
John Douglas Wadleigh passed away peacefully on July 22nd at the age of 96. John is survived by his loving wife Mary, three daughters; Cheryl (Harry) Ogloff, of Salmon Arm BC, Janet (Curt) Embleton, of Fort St John, BC, and Margaret (Michael) Oates of Captain Cook, Hawaii, five grandchildren; Nadya, Michael and Stephen Ogloff, Amanda Davey and Tessa Embleton-Cook and three great grandchildren; Taylor, Austin and Mackenna Rose. John was predeceased by his sister Doris and brother Bob.
John was born in Innisfail, Alberta on May 28, 1923. He lived in Calgary, during WWII joined the RCAF, became a pilot and served in Europe. After the War he graduated from UBC with a Civil Engineering Degree in Vancouver where he met and married Mary. He re-enlisted in the RCAF as a Construction Engineer serving throughout Canada and Europe. After retirement John and Mary resided in Kelowna. In his last year they moved to Salmon Arm as his health declined. John enjoyed Square Dancing with his wife and friends until his late 80’s. As a mathematician he was fond of sudoku and crossword puzzles and was an eager reader of books. John was also an avid gardener especially known for his beautiful roses. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 9, 2019 at 10:30 am, at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna BC.
