We Remember

WALL, Jake

Jake Wall was born October 28, 1925 and passed away on March 5, 2016 at 90 years of age.

Jake grew up near Hague, Saskatchewan. As a young man he travelled, working at a fishing camp in Red Lake, Ontario and also transporting cars between Detroit and Hague.  Later he was part owner of Modern Motors and later Hague Hardware. In 1951 he met and married a young school teacher named Sue Kroeger.  She would be the love of his life and they would remain together for the next 65 years.  They had three children: Sharon, Dale and Ron.

In 1970 Jake and Sue moved to Kelowna where he worked in the automotive business, retiring in 1989. After retiring, he and Sue volunteered for two years at the Hopi Mission school in Kykotsmovi, Arizona, where Jake helped maintain the school and Sue taught Grade 1.  Through his retirement they travelled, retained a wide circle of friends in Kelowna and each summer and fall hosted a steady stream of family and friends in their Kelowna home.  Jake also became a long and loyal member of the Capri Centre coffee group.

He is survived by his wife Sue, children Sharon, Dale (Nancy), Ron (Diana), 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marion, nieces and nephews and also by Sue’s family.

My mom, Anne Didora and myself are very sorry for your loss of Jake. I met Jake through my dad, John Didora and always made an effort to see him and the other coffee buddies when I came to Kelowna. He was a very special man and I will miss seeing his smiley face. I am sure he and my dad are catching up on the last couple of years. May all your cherished memories help through the tough times. Our thoughts are with you all. Anne Didora and Pat Crossley

  • Nancy Podmorow says:

Dear Sue and family, My parents, Henry and Kay Dyck, always shared the fun times you all had in your golfing escapades as well as your excursions together. The joy and treasured times and the stories of the time you spent together as friends did not go untold. Many stories were shared with us. Always with a smile and a laugh. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you Sue and to your family members.

  • Alice Funk says:

Dear Sue, Sharon, Dale & Ron,
I was saddened to hear of Jake’s passing. What I remember most about Jake is from the weeks he let me bum a ride to the city. He went to work & took a university class. We had many great conversations! He was so considerate about making sure I didn’t need to wait at the bus stop on the street. He much preferred that he wait for me. He was a very thoughtful man.
Best wishes to all of you.
    Alice Funk

  • Mel Billings says:

    To Sue and family,

My sincere condolences on the loss of Jake. I am sorry that I was unable to attend the memorial service. It would have been nice to reconnect with all of you.

I have no doubt that you have many fond memories of your husband, father, and grandfather that will hopefully help to ease some of the pain.

    Again, my sincere condolences.

  • Vivian (Wiens) Friesen says:

So very sorry to hear of Mr Wall’s passing. He always had such a big smile whenever I met him. The last time I saw him was at my Dad’s 90th birthday party 2 years ago. We shared a tear over the memory of my Mom. So wonderful to see his whole family at his service ( the video on this website). It is good to see Sue surrounded with children and grandchildren.

  • Randy Klaassen says:

Sue and family, God’s peace be with you in remembrance of Jake’s life and faith, and thankfulness to God for Jake’s gift of hospitality and friendship which he shared so freely. Remembering him and you, as friends of my parents. God’s blessings.
