We Remember

WALTERS, Gerhard
March 23, 1935 — July 11, 2024
Gerry Walters passed away peacefully the morning of Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Kelowna, BC after a tough battle with lymphoma. He was 89 years old.
Gerry was born on March 23, 1935, to Rudolph and Martha Walters in Onoway, Alberta. He was the fifth born of seven children, and had three brothers and three sisters — William, Arthur, Alice, Ruby, Darlene, and Mervyn.
Gerry lived the majority of his adult life in Edmonton, Alberta, where he met and married the love of his life, Hillevi Ost. They were married in April of 1957 and had a long, happy marriage of 65 years.
Gerry and Hillevi had three children. They raised their family in Edmonton, attending Central Pentecostal Tabernacle and later attended West Edmonton Christian Assembly. Over many years, Gerry faithfully served on various boards and committees in the church. Gerry was also part of a gospel quartet (the Ambassadors) with the original members being himself, his cousin and 2 dear friends. With 3 full studio recorded albums, they would go on to spread the gospel together through song for over 52 years.
Gerry and Hillevi also owned a summer cottage at Sunnyside Christian Retreat Centre on Sylvan Lake, Alberta, where they would spend every summer building many memories together with family and friends for 63 years.
Gerry owned and operated, together with his cousins, a very successful machine shop In Edmonton, Alberta (Walters Oil Tool LTD) and later went on to independently own and operate Walters Machine Incorporated and enjoyed working in his business until he was 82 years old.
In the summer of 2023, after losing his wife, Gerry made the decision to move to Kelowna, BC to live full time with his youngest daughter Jodi and her husband Cary. He made Willow Park Church his place of worship and fellowship, involving himself in the seniors group and meeting new friends. He lived out his final days in Kelowna with family surrounding him.
Most importantly, Gerry loved and served the Lord from a very young age and raised his family in a solid Christian upbringing, living out his life as a strong example of someone whose love and faith in Christ Jesus was always evident.
Gerry leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love for his family; leaving behind his three children, Cameron Walters (Brenda), Gerilyne Kuhn (Dwight), and Jodi Skrine (Cary); grandchildren, Kerstie (Bryan), Whitney (Owen), Christopher (Kristy), Cody (Karly), Brooklyne (Jordan), Nicholas (Katharina), Mitchell, Anthony (Amy), Travis, Abigail (Kaden), Ty (Danielle), and Kyra (Gavin); and great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Braylon, Adelynn, Rosie, Ruby, Ella, Barrett, Rozlyn, Beau, Archie and Oliver. Gerry also left behind his youngest sister, Darlene Milligan, who will miss him dearly.
Gerry was predeceased by his wife Hillevi and his siblings, Bill, Art, Alice, Ruby, and Merv.
Gerry was an incredible husband, father, papa, grampie, brother, uncle, and friend and his unconditional love and friendship will be incredibly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Central Okanagan Hospice House, who helped make Gerry’s final days as comfortable as possible.
