A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) Catholic Church, 2547 Hebert Rd, West Kelowna, BC. It will be followed by a luncheon by the CWL in the OLOL parish hall (School Gym). Mass will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. (www.ololwestkelowna.com) The link will allow people to attend the online mass.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11:00 am, at Emmanuel Church, 2600 Hebert Road, followed by a reception in the church hall. This celebration will also be Livestreamed (scroll down to see the Livestream)
On May 12, 2022, Deirdre (née Crickmay) Wannop, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Vancouver, BC, Deedee moved to West Kelowna in 1973, and there she attended George Pringle High School, where she made many lifelong friends. She met Peter in late 1974, and they married March 25, 1978. Together they raised four beautiful children, all of whom married, and Deedee and Peter have been blessed with 7 grandchildren.
Guiding and loving children was Deedee’s gift and passion. She made a significant contribution to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church as children’s liturgy leader/teacher for over 30 years. She was involved with the Westside Days Royalty Society, helping to guide young ladies, and over the last 23 years, Deedee was a noon hour supervisor at Lakeview Heights Elementary and Hudson Road Elementary. Her seven (7) grandchildren were her special treasures, and she put them ahead of everything else.
Left to mourn the loss of her giving, loving, and honest nature are Peter, her husband of 44 years; their children Andrea (Chris) Henders, Michael (Julie) Wannop, Elizabeth (Jay) Morrison, and James (Kassie) Wannop; her grandchildren Ruby, Elliot, India, Grace, Petra, Violet, and Stevie. She is also survived by siblings Moira (Graham) Nixon, Timothy Crickmay, Jamie (Cathy) Crickmay, Tessa Gillespie, Paula (Peter) Kast; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law Jane Towse, John (Jeanette) Wannop, Marg (Mark) Flett, George Wannop, and James Wannop; as well as numerous loving nieces & nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Allison Pasenau; Dr. Tim Wood, Dr. Brett Phillips, the Palliative Home Care Staff, especially RN Ann; lifelong friend Dr. Linda (Huva) Horspool; the staff at Kelowna General Hospital and Okanagan Hospice House; and especially her sister Paula, and sisters-in-law Marg & Jeanette for their numerous hours of care for Deedee in her final months.
Deirdre was predeceased by her parents Michael & Joan Crickmay, and her parents-in-law Bob and Evelyn Wannop.

We, as a family, are shocked and saddened to hear about Deedee’s passing. I can speak confidently on behalf of the Lakeview Heights area as Deedee was a genuine, giving, caring, positive and supportive individual in this community. She always had a smile on her face and expressed interest into every family member and child that she met and was involved with. Deedee, along with Peter, raised 4 great kids. This family was truly a legacy in the community of Lakeview Heights due to their humbleness, kindness and faith in humanity. We send our love, prayers and condolences during this time of loss and grief. This community has lost a very special soul. May Deedee rest in peace and may Peter, the kids and grandchildren carry on her legacy for the positive influence and impact that has been left in this community.

“Sail on Silver Girl , Sail on by” Brought me to tears of gratitude and joy for those years I knew Deedee well. A beautiful soul at 13 and a beloved friend for always. We were cheerleaders together at that age. Deedee carried the role of cheering for loved ones into the rest of her life. We are all the better for it and for loving and being loved by her. I just watched the replay of the celebration of life., such beautiful memories for the family. I only knew DeeDee through her husband Peter when Peter ran the Esso Station in Kelowna. I remember her coming in with her children when they were young. I do hope your family will heal from the heartache I am sure you are feeling at this time. My thoughts are with you at this time.
